I remember hearing Gruden say during a game a few years ago that Brett Farve was “the bravest man to walk the planet”

Agree but society would be greatly impacted if people chose NOT to do the jobs listed above. NFL is purely entertainment. If that went away, people would just find something else to entertain themselves.

Society is impacted without entertainment. Particularly morale. People have needed entertainment for all of existence and in America today football brings a lot of that. People get joy from entertainment. Think back to covid and everything shut down, no converts, no sports. How miserable were people? How much did suicide and drug use increase? It affects more than you think

I get paid less to put my life on the line every time I go to New Orleans… but not much less.

they played a sound bite where Ryan Clark said fans shouldn’t be over critical of players bc they “Put their lives on the line to play the game”.
They stopped the game because it was unprecedented. I am not saying they dont take on risk, and the thought of being paralyzed is terrifying...but the nature of this disproves that Clark statement.

Booger said it best, he has never seen life on the line on the field with CPR and other lifesaving measures. Clark just has to be dramatic.

And by the way, how did SVP look like a giant next to clark last night. Ryan looked like he was at a kids table next to him.

Absolutely. Linemen get killed on the job way more often than football players. So do plant workers, police, military, farmers, etc.

I’m 32 years old. I have personally known over a dozen farmers/farmhands killed on the job. And these men didn’t make much money.

Since 1970, 1 NFL player has died on the field.

Not taking away from the tragedy yesterday, but people need to put things in perspective. Freak accidents happen in life

Deaths per year in US:

Loggers: 43 or 82.2 per 100,000 workers

Commercial Fisherman: 23 or 75 per 100,000 workers

Roofers: 115 or 59 per 100,000 workers

Pilots: 68 or 48.1 per 100,000

Steel workers: 14 or 36.1 per 100,000

Drivers/Truck Drivers: 1,032 or 28.8 per 100,000

Electrical Workers: 30 or 22 per 100,000

Yeah, I think most of the players I heard said "we know the inherent dangers of playing professional football".

Which is more accurate to me.

One of the many sad things in ‘Nam was……
Not having time to grieve as the VC kept firing.
Even firing back next to your dead buddy

Hoping a Helo could land fast

Ah, so along with teachers, nurses, doctors, grocery store clerks, and tik-tockers we'll add multi-millionaire athlete's to the list of "heroes", meanwhile the US Gov't just fired several thousands of actual heroes that were in our military for not taking a forced shot that may, actually, have played a part in last night's tragedy.
