Inflation accelerated further in May, with prices rising 8.6% from a year ago for the fastest increase since December 1981, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday.

Even with our current manipulated indexes inflation is the highest since 1981. If we were to have a real index that measured actual buiying power and reflected real family expenditures the rate would be double or more.

The problems with the CPI

Nice way to increase tax revenue, without passing legislation to increase our taxes.

If so, it is a plan that has the intellect of every other government plan as their cost will go up more than any incease in revenue from inflation. Receipts would likely go down.

The CPI isn’t meant to measure everyone specifically. You can always track what you purchase on a monthly basis to see how your own inflation is changing.

But. But. The experts said it was transitory.

It’s not going to get better because nothing has changed. Deficits do matter.
