Also, don't be afraid to season them a touch. Baked sweet potatoes with a dash of cumin are extremely tasty and healthy.

Keep hearing this. Season with stuff, but not salt or sugar. It expands their palate.

I honestly think most kids become picky eaters because they are started on foods that are way over sweetened or salted, and then when confronted with "normal" food it's simply not exciting enough.

I used to think that until my second child came along. My oldest is a freak and will eat an entire plate a raw broccoli. My younger son was raised exactly the same as his older brother, but he is the pickiest eater on the planet. It’s in their DNA.

I'm late to the discussion, but these reusable food pouches work great for when you are on the go. Just load up regular or homemade food.

Whats even better, they sell screw on spoons that not only work with these, but any other disposable pouches you buy. Feeding in a restaurant or in the car is so much easier.

Ours was eating this stuff around 1.

Blueberries, Strawberries sliced up, Apples sliced up, Pear slices in the cups in natural juice.

Champagne tomatoes cut in half. Steamed broccoli. Rice. Penne pasta... plain.

Cereal... Cheerios... dry, Granola... dry, Special K, Rice Crispies in milk.

Toast with butter and cut up into small squares. Saltines with just a little bit of peanut butter.

We don't do any fruit juices at all. No sugary drinks. Milk and water only. No candy, ice cream etc... Tried a variety of meats... just not interested at all.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

This weekend I think I'll try a scrambled egg, peas/carrots, and salmon before offering his pureed food. I'll probably start mixing some cooked rice or little ABC/star noodles into his purees too, get him used to some texture.

Patience and messiness are not things I'm good at. Going to need to get over that quickly.

Just hang in there

I am not lying when I say my son was still gagging and throwing up on purees and baby food at 11 months. He literally could not eat a single thing

It was beyond frustrating for me and my wife. Then, like a snap of the fingers, he was able to eat pretty much anyting without gagging.

Your child seems ahead of my son even because yours can keep purees and puffs down.

Also, for some positive vibes, our son is in the 90th % for height and weight at 2.5 now

Hi! I started baby-led weaning around 5 months so your situation will look a bit different. Some great 1st foods are avocado (try just cutting into cubes. i would put a little sodium-free seasoning on it also), banana, toast with PB, eggs, any vegetable you can steam to a softer texture. Remember they don't have the same food preferences you do so don't forget things you dislike! if you go on Pinterest and search "baby led weaning" there are tons of recipes for muffins, pancakes, etc that are more healthy for babies. breakfast foods are usually a hit with us. if there is one thing he really loves (i.e. bananas) make sure to have that item on the plate along with new things. mine also loves jambalaya, rice and gravy, spaghetti, etc. and i started feeding him those things at 5 mos. good luck!
