Airline Pilots were moonlighting and flying coke for cartels for extra money. Same for regular everyday people using their homes as stash houses for extra money. Read these two books and educate yourself:

Partly due to addiction to money and power. It’s the thrill of doing it for people like Jung. Also usually you aren’t allowed to walk away

Escobar could have walked away but he used the money for other agendas against the Colombian government

The Ochoa’s weren’t going to let Pablo walk away he was making them too much money. About the only guy who has been allowed to buy his way out of a crime family was Bonnano. You are correct most the time you aren’t allowed to walk away. They will kill you.

Damn,he only did 4 years for the coke. Then went to jail for 21 for marijuana, which is probably almost legal in MA.

There was a time the Govt hated weed way more than cocaine

Y’all are getting crack and cocaine confused. Jung wasn’t moving crack he was moving high quality cocaine, shite that cost 150 dollars a gram.

Crackheads weren’t buying that stuff. Yes crack is a base form of cocaine but that was being made and sold by entirely different people.

have read those books, and I'm very well educated on this subject, first of all those books were written by, wait for it.....drug smugglers...felons if you will, not known for truthfulness, and their planes are being flown by the same, and being in the aviation business for over four decades, I know that most people outside of the aviation community don't really know much of anything about it and will exaggerate or misunderstand a lot about what they don't know, I also know what you're generalizing to be a crock of shite, I know of a few rogue incidents of furloughed pilots getting lured into that, knew one that worked for Barry Seal, I know of one pilot that was busted running drugs while actually flying for the(major) airlines, now baggage handlers, aircraft cleaners, and so on, completely different story, Eastern was the kingpin in MIA during that era, Delta had a modest presence in MIA, American had one gate in MIA during that time, so I'd suggest that you educate yourself beyond a couple of dime store novels to use as history books before making a sweeping(false) generalization on any subject

What next you are going to tell me Miami police officers (a shite load of them) weren’t transporting cocaine for extra money? You obviously haven’t read Farzad’s book as he isn’t a drug dealer he is a legit journalist.

Oh and some of the biggest scumbags I have ever met were commercial airline pilots that think they are the smartest guy in the room when in reality they are nothing but MARTA bus drivers in the sky.

Was commenting on your misstatement regarding the pilots,
and as for accepting as fact the word of a “legit” journalist out to make a buck by sensationalism ?

I get it. Back in the 60’s and 70’s being a commercial airline pilot was a pretty prestigious job. Now? Bus drivers in the sky. Welp.

Unfortunately pilots just aren’t a prestigious job/career like they used to be. Just like flying today isn’t a big deal like it used to be. Times change. Nobody has a reason to lie and say they used commercial airline pilots to smuggle drugs. It makes no sense to do such. As I am sure you know some of them had their own planes they used for fun/hobby and it was a way to make a lot of extra money. Just like police could make extra money transporting coke from a boat slip to a stash house. Just like the businessman in a upper middle class neighborhood could make extra money storing cocaine for a buddy or relative. Or a bank President could make extra money laundering cocaine money. It wasn’t just pilots. Everyone was in on it. Plenty of legit evidence in books and documentaries state such. Pilots aren’t on some pedestal above bank presidents or police chiefs. Especially today.

Still not relevant. Thousands of crack babies and our society as a whole were impacted. I'm glad Jung is dead. Not a good guy.

An infinitely greater amount are born every year with fetal alcohol syndrome, yet are you going to say the same when one of the Seagram heirs dies?

it's actually the quality of the passenger that has dragged the flying experience down, we don't even come out of the cockpit for very much anymore, and the gig from my side of the door is pretty sweet

So do i and don't know how it could be confirmed or disproven.
Will tell you this, I've watched and read a great deal on the largest/most infamous drug dealers around the country during that time and many of them have 2 similarities. Going to CA for the coke and white women being the true facilitators of the deals. Kind of fits the narrative that most were getting their coke through Jungs network. Every city in the country had at least 1 major kingpin that truly controlled the streets and coke distribution. Billions of dollars were flowing through inner cities during that time. It's kind of hard to believe all that money was out there so freely considering the times.
