maybe 1 out of 20 judges is elected because he or she is a good attorney and has the correct judicial temperment. And usually those few are unopposed.

The rest are only there because they got more votes in a popularity contest.

Although there are some very good judges scattered across the state, the overall state of the judiciary in Louisiana is a joke, from city courts all the way up to the Supremes. Feds are slipping that way too, at least in the EDLA.

Sad, too, as there are a lot of good attorneys who'd make great judges.
