We’ve always had crazy people.
We’ve always had easy access to cheap, high capacity firearms. I’m fact, we use to have easier access than we do now. And they were far cheaper then than they are now.

According to the Texan politicians; it's video games and the Internet.
Guns don't kill people, but virtual guns do though.

Parents aren’t spending enough quality time with their kids.
Social media has caused young people to be more impulsive and have less patience.
Too much time spent indoors.
Of course there are other factors

They used to lock up crazy people. Now we give them pills and tell them there's nothing wrong with them.

social media and news outlets can brain wash you in days.

Not just that but there have been a number of anti-psychology movements that encourage "neurodiversity". Basically being mentally ill puts you in a special category because we all have to be special don't we?
The saddest part is this had been popularized by nutjobs who brought you Scientology. Sure we make fun of them today but don't think there are people listening to that and thinking "Hey, that L. Ron Hubbard guy may have been a greedy megalomaniac who started a cult but he has a point".

Among the factors already mentioned, I think the digitalization of our daily lives has likely contributed.
Like you said, guns aren’t new and crazy people aren’t new. But what is new is the ease with which people can internally minimize the existence of others. That rise has come as a direct result of a life spent with a screen in front of our face, adding an extra layer of disconnect between people.
When you grow up viewing humans as simply being screen names and profiles it’s a whole lot easier to ignore that they are, in fact, human beings. Which I imagine would make taking those lives a whole lot easier.

It's the notoriety coupled with the desensitized feeling most youth have towards shootings through all the media coverage of when the events occur, plus I'll add the video game effect.
I know 99.9% can view coverage of these senseless acts and can play even violent video games and go about in peace. But, as sane folks that most are, I don't think it's possible for most of us to understand what really insane people are thinking.

So I say mental illness plus social media is a big problem.
Pre 80s they had places to put the crazies.
Exactly.

According to mayor Buttplug it’s white nationalists who are mobilized by Trump and weak gun laws. At least that’s a tweet that Ben Stiller ‘liked’

We’ve always had crazy, and we’ve always have guns, but what have we lost?

mass shootings get reported on national news more than single shootings. i'd venture to say that nola, chicago, and atlanta have lost at least 5 people in the last 2 weeks because of shootings.

The lack of Psychiatric Asylums and the deinstitutionalization in America. We treat mental illnesses like its normal and the mentality ill should be accepted by society as they are.

Yeah but ever since Columbine the media has a need to plaster the shooters face, name, and his life all over the place. This makes the shooter a psuedo celebrity which is what a lot of crazies want to be. Now with the rise of social media it's far easier for said crazy to leave their mark on history

Aside from football team disputes, there’s a lot of like minded, upstanding people here. We should build some kind of TD civil army! When the shite starts to hit the fan we assemble somewhere!

I think the media coverage plants the idea in people's head. Depression and mass homicide are not something new. It's just in your face more now and IMO helps plant the seed for unstable people. I was at the gun range yesterday with a relative and a friend from overseas and everyone there was having a great time. When was the last time you heard of a mass shooting at a gun range?
