People are more lonely and detached than ever and technology gives them a false sense of community.
Technology can never replace a real life community you interact with daily. Never.
Social media and the internet is warping our sense of society.

Media attention is a big part of it. Little dicked losers who didn't get enough hugs want to see their face on t.v. Or at least go out with one big "frick you" before offing themselves.

Population density, lack of morals, and mass media. Think of how hard it is to find solitude for the average human. Couple that with people being pushed an agenda 24/7, people tend to act out against whatever agitates them enough. To make matters worse, common morality traditionally provided by religion is being eroded by secularism.
Put it into perspective. Many of us have a similar viewpoint on immigration, but most of us have certain moral constructs that work to keep us from going to El Paso (so to speak).
People with no true North tend to go South.
