MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — The SW App Drilling team has set multiple industry benchmarks with the successful completion of the BW Edge MSH 210H, a well that team members lauded as a “postcard well” for its near-perfect execution. This engineering feat near Moundsville, West Virginia, includes the longest lateral ever drilled in the United States — extending over five miles — and has captured attention across the energy sector.

The BW Edge MSH 210H, operated on Rig EDC 41, achieved a historic suite of records:

— Longest lateral in U.S. land: 27,657 feet
— Longest well in U.S. land: 34,507 feet
— Longest single bit/BHA run in U.S. land: 30,368 feet
— 48-hour footage world record: 21,314 feet
— Expand Energy 24-hour footage record: 12,370 feet
— Expand Energy daily footage record: 2,774 feet/day

The achievement underscores the value of ultra-long laterals, especially in challenging terrains like Appalachia where surface access is constrained. By drilling from fewer surface locations to access premium reservoir targets, Expand Energy not only enhances hydrocarbon recovery but also reduces environmental impact and improves capital efficiency — critical in today's evolving energy landscape.

So you can now steal oil from your neighbors five miles away?

Nice.

I have a slice of the core mounted from a natural gas well Dad drilled in Mingo County West Virginia in 1971. The section I have came from a tad over 21,000 feet. At the time, it was the deepest well drilled in WV. The difference in depths of land based wells in the Appalachians -vs- Louisiana, Texas, and Oklahoma is pretty astounding.

I'm completing a 31,843' deep 27,900 formation PSI well in the GoM right now.

There’s a law or two on the books addressing that. Somewhere.
