In the modern era is a doctor nothing more than a gatekeeper for medication?

Outside of screenings and performing various tests, none of the doctors I have been to in the past 4 years seem to possess up-to-date medical knowledge that far beyond what they were taught in medical school. With the internet, it's easy to google search a symptom and think every ache and pain is a sign of stage four cancer but looking beyond that, I have access to thousands of medical articles/studies that I can read at my own pace as many times as I want. These are articles that I'd bet my doctor hasn't felt the need to or has had the time to read his/her self.
Going to the doctor, I feel fairly confidence, I can say well based on x, y, and z I feel like I could be experiencing a, b, or c. It's good to be able to steer the course of your medical treatment, but having to educate the doctor on these things doesn't make me feel very confidence in their ability to diagnose and just makes me look at them as a tool to get tested for suspected illness or to receive a prescription for a certain medication.
It also doesn't help when they refuse to acknowledge what you have suspected or just flat out denies it despite the fact of themselves having no good explanation for why you have the symptoms you do, believing none of them could possibly be related and simply handing you pills to treat the symptom you talked about the most during your visit.

You may think you're educating them on things, but you actually aren't.

The worst doctor knows infinitely more about illness/disease/injury/healing than I do so no, they’re not just a gatekeeper of medicine. They have to know how to approach medicine which is something I don’t know.

Your doctor laughs at you behind your back just like I laugh at nurses who try to educate me on what’s wrong with their teeth

Sorry you go to shitty doctors, Dr. Google.
Let’s see how well those WebMD searches work when you need surgery.

Bulldog...you gonna Google up how to do your own surgery as well?

Go to a doctor and ask him to prescribe a certain medication because you did a google search and he’ll laugh at you. Doctors, believe it or not, do keep up with medical knowledge even after graduating medical school.

I'm sure they hear a lot of BS from patients, but that doesn't mean they never have a point. I have been a sufferer of Laryngopharyngeal reflux since December of 2016. The GI I went to flat out denied any correlation between reflux and sinus type issues. I went to the GP complaining of dizziness and ringing ears. He actually thought I had a brain tumor and sent me to an MRI. Later, he just diagnosed me with Eustachian tube dysfunction and gave me some allegra D. Again, he denied any correlation between reflux and these issues.
The allegra D did nothing for me, my ears are ringing now worse than ever plus they feel clogged all the time and ache sometimes. I went to an ENT and had largely the same experience. He just gave me some Nasacort and told me to blow my nose with my nose closed to unclog my ears.

General practitioners these days are pretty worthless. Their only desire is to runs large amounts of tests and to get you out of their hair ASAP

Good luck diagnosing and treating that melanoma.

I guess I'm hoping I'm wrong or that he can just address the sinus symptoms, dizziness, ears ringing, etc. If it's LPR, I don't see a way out other than surgery.

Basically. I can diagnose myself for most things through the power of the internet. But I can’t get scripts to fix it without the ole doc

Don't go to a dozen different doctors just because you dont like the previous doc's diagnosis. Half the problem is that that every new doc is starting fresh when they 1st see you. If your treatment isn't working to your liking then go back to the same doc and let them know. There is likely a list of rule outs that start at the simplest thing and moves on to more complicated that they're working through

I think you're confusing your own personal take on a medical issue you experience with a general medical knowledge.
Without a doubt you are going to have more insight on what you're feeling and experiencing and your doctor isnt going to always interpret that correctly.
Yes there will be instances where your doctor will order a test in lieu of treatment based on self reporting.
Yes there are issues that are easily resolved via simple prescriptions.
As far as direct medical knowledge? No chance 9.999/10 times.
