Eh, I never really get the e-brag thing. It's not like you have any clue who I am, so I don't get any personal gratification out of it.

But yes, very subtle

Kind of struck a nerve I guess . My teachers always talked so much shite to me about my grades, so it feels really fricking good to know I'm making triple what any of those miserable fricks are.

Does it really matter? After valedictorian, salutatorian and the rest of the honors graduates, the rest are just a large mass of lazy dumbasses.

At Random High School High, is there that much distinction betwee Mister 2.5 and Mister 1.5?

They always ask you to hold your applause until the end. If they did it this way, 99% of the screaming and applause would definitely be at the end.

Unless you make the highest GPA's a surprise and announce them last. Maybe distribute the lists in groups of 10 so no one knows the order of the top 10?

Probably not

I wonder though.

What effect, if any, do you think knowing they'd call up graduates that way have on GPAs?

I would guess probably zero effect.

I know when I was that age I wouldn't have given a damn. Unless, you're an extreme nerd or some shite.

Pretty sure Dutchtown had all their honor grads (nearly 200) in GPA order followed by non-honors in alphabetical (260).

The Naval Academy does this. They call you out how you rank in the class. I don't think it's all based on grades. However, the "anchor" or lowest ranking graduate, gets the loudest applause from the crowd. It's most like the "Mr. Irrelevant" comparison. They also take donations from the other graduating midshipmen and then give it to the anchor.

I don't disagree with you on this, but to be fair, the OP is not suggesting that the names be called out on a basis of future potential. Rather, the order is determined by what they have already accomplished in high school.

I think calling them out by GPA it's a good idea, myself. I would have been middle-of-the-pack, but that doesn't really bother me. Let the school recognize school-related things. Quality reveals itself in other ways. Like your $150k salary, for instance.

I'm pretty sure they sat us by class rank for the Jesuit graduation. Not alphabetic. Can anyone else confirm that??

Just think how much more you'd be making if you weren't a failure in high school.
