... But this is the first time i've received anything like this:

I suspect he went home and got drunk and this was the fruit of his inebriation. There was about a ten minute wait between text messages (besides the (1/2), (2/2)). I understand that his position is probably desperate (or so it seems) but how do you call someone a liar and a coward in the same conversation and then ask for help?

I did send out a group text to all the other shops in our area asking if anyone had an opening but that is (now it is) as far as I'm putting myself out for this guy.

Opinions? Dealt with the disgruntled employee type before?

I never fire anyone. They always fire themselves. I just make it official.

Send him my way, I'll keep the guy busy painting all day and I don't even own a painting business.

firing people really sucks...I lose sleep over it for days every time...

can't say I have ever recieved any shite like that...of course, I typically try to keep communications with terminated empolyees to a bare minimum, at least in the short term...

Sorry you lost your job today. I have some paint work around my house if you ever make it across the border.

Fired someone this morning I wanted to and he needed it but I still felt shitty. Especially when he started in how are his kids gonna eat and whatnot. In reality I have a family and I've busted my arse to get where I am why let them jeopardize that.

I'd be worried if I were you coming and vandalizing your home. I'd also be worried about him harming your family

exactly, if you don't care about the quality of the product you put out, why should care about your quality of life?
