I've never been fired from a job, I don't care for starting over though.

Why can't he get unemployment? Are you that type of scumbag employer that only hires people as independent contractors?

It's not like a skilled painter is out of work long. They are a dime a dozen in Houston but not here. He will bounce back.

Terminating employees is the most difficult part of any management position. However if you hire the right person and put them in a position to be successful they should be. I had to let a guy go recently due to a failed drug test. He did it, not me.

You say you are trying so hard to keep things professional yet you had to come to the OT and air out what should be a personal matter between yourself and an employee.

All body work people are 1099. They usually bring their own tools and get paid per job...not hourly. It's always been that way in that industry. The same with mechanics.

Not to mention there's a good chance one of the painter's buddies reads TD so he may even find out that OP has been posting their private conversation on the internet

I would recommend deleting this thread for legal reasons. My lawyer who is an employment expert says posting stuff like this in an Internet message board cold come back to bite an employer.

Good luck.

Owl, I am about to drop some bank clients we do work for. Just waiting on them to clear up some invoices and pay me. Just too much bullshite to deal with. I know what it is to do something like that and the relief that comes with it.
