which of my 1970s baws remember when this was built and salivating at the chance to visit?

i can still recite/sing this commercial word for word nearly 50 years later.

our summer church trips concluded with the Holy Grail - Monroe to Six Flags Dallas

for a poor kid from NELA, this was willy wonka and disneyworld all rolled up into one.

eta sears candy counter, mall with arcade and orange julius and the once a year trip to six flags and i was a HAPPY HAPPY boy.

It was Astroworld for Southern Louisiana. So many great memories as a kid. So exciting seeing the rides from the interstate.

I don’t remember the commercial, but we went to that Six Flags park in that very year, 1978. I was 10 years old and it was indeed absolutely magical!!

My uncle said he would buy me Jurassic Park on VHS if I rode the Texas cyclone in 94

Mission accomplished

You’re lucky. The highlight of my summer church trips was the Pecanland Mall in Monroe.

I rode that mother with one of my best friends. She, like me, enjoyed the big coasters. I was addicted to the Big Zephyr (after working up the courage to ride it for the first time, that is).

We used to go to AstroWorld all the time from Louisiana.
I was always scared of the roller coasters but my older brother got me on the ride that went straight up like an elevator then ease out then dropped. Can’t remember the name. He told me come on it’s not that bad. Then right when we were about to drop he said. This is the scariest ride here.
I remember he would put a penny on his knee and it would raise off his knee on the drop. Anyway I loved it and rode every ride there. My favorite was the Ultra Twister.

Took the kids to Six Flags over Texas this summer and we rode Shockwave multiple times. No lines and the kids loved it. Still a thriller

Get to go on all the rides and then go to an Astros game where the ball would bounce over fielder's heads bc that ground was so hard.

I remember that one. My kid brother tossed up his lunch on it.
