There are alot of people training for different events or activities that are not professional athletes. In fact, the vast majority aren't. Cold water submersion can definitely help to increase blood-flow which will improve recovery and help people remain active in their sport or activity of choice. There are plenty of people who think heat is a better option as it it forces the body to recover more naturally but that doesn't do much for acute pain.

So, if you've a golfer who enjoys playing 2-3 times a week but your sore from the gym or something similar, it makes alot of sense. Same with say someone training for a half or full marathon. Or, someone recovering from an injury to try to help reduce swelling and inflammation as they balance a return to running program searching for a balance of rest but also working to return to a specific sport or activity.

Taking care of yourself isn't just for professional athletes.

What’s the point of buying one? Just put ice and cold water in your tub

I know guys that swear by it. They say it’s impossible to gain weight if you do it every morning. There are tutorials on YouTube that will show you how to make one for like $50 and a trip to tractor supply.

Well if you didn’t want to run to Circle K everyday for 7 bags of ice there are ways to do it.

Buying that much ice every time you use it will be more expensive than a unit pretty quickly

What's the difference between doing a cold plunge and going outside in 40 degree weather for 5 minutes with minimal clothing?

That's what I was thinking. Go to the gas station and buy 10 bags of ice and do it. See how much you like it after a week.

You’d only need a bag or two at most.

You need at least 3 or 4. That’s $10+ every time you use it. You can get a decent unit for less than $1k. If you have room a commercial ice machine isn’t a terrible idea either

I went the cheap route last summer and got an inflatable one off Amazon. It was awesome for cooling down after working outside all day in July/August heat. Keeping it clean and maintained was a pain so I didn't use it much after that hottest part of the year. I was thinking about cleaning it out and filling it up next cold spell. Just let nature do it's thing and not have to mess with as much ice. It took way too much ice in the summer and it struggled to dip into really cold temps.

I'd really love to get a nicer one with a pump that's easier to keep clean and use. I think I'd mess with it more if it was more convenient. I'm not going to preach the health benefits and act like some expert on here, but I know I feel damn good after using it. I'm more relaxed and sleep better.

You must have an enormous tub then. Weird for such a short guy? You swim in the house? Rubber ducky?
