I don't know how anyone could champion Houston as some mecca. The bars alone are like a more corporate version of shitty tigerland bars

Yep
Mid sized cities have grown but the main economic player in NOLA has languished since the 70s. Hey, but the conventions are still rolling

Right, because the city had zero culture in 1960 when the population was 625k+.
The "culture" currently has become little more than a charade fueled by goofy hipster transplants.

Yes. I challenge them to name one city with a large minority population and Democrat leadership that is improving by most QOL and economic standards. I'll save them search time ... there aren't any. All of the major growth is in cities mostly led by republicans and where whites have flocked to get away from "dat culture".
I know the truth hurts, so flame away.

Houston is either the most diverse or 2nd most diverse city in the USA
if we take out the "big 3" (NYC, LA, Chicago) then there is nothing any other city offers that Houston doesn't. it has culture, fine dining (better than Nola), QOL, a strong economy (even with oil prices down), etc. yeah it's big and yeah it has suburbs, but that's irrelevant

No, this isn't really true. And I'm registered republican.

how many major cities in the US are led by republicans?

Posted on 7/26/17 at 4:37 pm to SlowFlowPro
Maybe OKC and that really isn't major

Take out the big 3?
Ok, then San Francisco and Denver have Houston beat on sheer locality to natural beauty and job opportunity.
But it's ok, we know how you Lake Charles folks like to stick up to your crown jewel of the west

Idk man, it's a pretty sketchy walk to the conservatory given the rampant homeless problem in downtown Houston.

SF is a weird city (and i don't even mean culturally). if you're not a major doctor, lawyer, or tech person you can't afford to live any sort of standard of living. there are simply not the same types of economic opportunities across the spectrum.
Denver was the "it" city a few years ago but that caused all sorts of issues. it certainly doesn't have the economy that Houston does, especially compared to COL. also, if you're a guy there, good luck getting female attention unless you're really good looking and pretty rich. it's called Menver and it's sex ratio is completely screwed

Kip Holden and Ray Nagin were more "republican" than Bloomberg.
Rudy was the biggest political fluke in modern history, but the luckiest, most fortunate thing that could have ever happened to New York. Can you imagine 9/11 with DeBlasio or David Dinkins?

Houston comes across as a vastly populated city sprawl that reminds me of an overgrown bedroom community..... of course with that many people and that much money you have everything you will ever need, but the perception of a boring cookie cutter place isn't something so many people have just created out of a vacuum. Stereotypes come from somewhere, you have to agree.

Maybe the actual suburbs
Inside the loop Houston is awesome and has better food and more nightlife than New Orleans
