re: I’m not gonna lie. “It’s Raining Men” is a good song.

Yup. Huge clearing. Lots of trails. Small hills. Off to the left of the video is a flight landing strip (FLS) to land C-130 or C-17. Do not land on it. Hard as concrete (almost)

How many times are those "tethers" ( ... for lack of a more appropriate term. The straps between the paratrooper's rip cord and the cable - static line? - in the aircraft) reused?
A college friend of mine was at either Ft Bragg or Benning for airborne school. IIRC, they had to do five jumps, one of which was a night jump, to qualify. There were some weather problems, so they were pressed to finish their jumps to qualify. As I recall the story going, they jumped twice in one day and got up very early to do their night jump before dawn the next day.
Fifth jump complete and the sun starting to rise, everybody's happy and looking forward to breakfast. A bus picks them up at the DZ. the driver apparently had been out most of the night and was still fricked up. He inexplicably ran off the road and into a ditch, doors down. Nobody was seriously injured, but as soldiers were asking the driver WTF happened, they discovered (or suspected) he was drunk. My buddy was a 1LT at the time and said as an officer, he was obligated to get the situation under control. However, on the other hand, he said he was ready to kill the guy himself. He said at first, he was just stunned by the irony of making five jumps in a few days and then potentially getting killed in a bus accident. Then he was just pissed because he was hungry and it became apparent he wasn't going to get hot chow.

One CH-47 jump off the ramp. Many UH-60 jumps (which was my 73rd and final jump - did that one on Sicily Drop Zone after a change of command ceremony).
Two or three C-141 (that was in jump school). Numerous C-130 and C-17. And a lot of CASA 212 (which is an awesome, awesome jump).

quote:All of mine were static line jumps (which is what you are referring to). Not sure how many times a static line is re-used. That would be a job for riggers to inspect and (as necessary) reject/remove from use.

Love the story of your buddy
