re: I'm glad the BLM crowd is so dedicated to equality

BLM was initially started to prevent police from unfairly targeting blacks. I have no problem with that rationale. The unfortunate reality that they seem to want to ignore, is that blacks commit more crimes than whites, so it stands to reason that they would be arrested more. They scream bloody murder when a black is killed by a white cop, but often gloss over the fact that blacks kill more blacks than whites do. Apparently black lives matter except when it's blacks killing blacks, then it's just status quo.

I despise BLM as much as the next guy, but this is a load of shite, and I can prove it to you. Do you wish you were black?
So you are asking me if I would care if I was raised in the same type of environment (both parents with good values) but my skin was black?
Why would I care?
Skin color doesn't determine your behavior. I would most likely be a very similar person with the same thought processes. Maybe would have been able to run faster jump higher and better scholarship, but that's not a bad thing.
Now if you are asking me if I would want to be born in the lower ninth ward, that's a different story. Because I also wouldn't want to be born to a white family in a trailer park in Alabama either.
You made a nice straw man argument though. The real root cause that you are ignoring is poverty and family dynamics. Not skin color.

Hell, for that matter my ancestors aren't even from here. They're from Sicily, you know, where the Moors from AFRICA invaded and conquered! So frick'em.

It is even worse than that. Blacks kill Whites at a much higher rate than Whites kill Blacks. If anything Whites should be marching on Blacks.

Not just a much higher rate, but actually double!!!! But I think that stat is actually racist though...

But if you're black, you're more likely to have been born into poverty. You're also more likely to have been born into a single parent household. You cannot conveniently ignore that. Socioeconomics are more important than race, there is no denying that, but you cannot act like they're unrelated.

You cannot offer up a few exceptions to the rule as a barometer for an entire race. People don't make it out "all the time."
When more than half of your grandparents or parents were born poor, don't act like it is so difficult to grasp that being born black in this country is still worse than being born white.

So, as pointed out in this discussion numerous times, socioeconomic factors play a role in African lives. If you are black, you are over 30 times more likely to be born into a single parent household than to be unarmed and killed by police. Why not address this clearly contributing factor instead of focusing all your attention on such a minute detail? That's my problem with BLM. They make it about race when there are clearly much larger factors, actually inside the black community, at play.

Tell me why they are more likely to be born into a single parent household and poor?
You are changing the subject. You asked if I would want to be born black. But I just proved that's not the issue by saying I (and most other people) wouldn't mind being rich and say a black athlete with a good family.
So the issue really is poverty and family dynamics. Not race.
Unless you are arguing that those issues are directly a result of racism. Which I'm not sure how skin color makes you leave your spouse and kids. There have been studies that have controlled for poverty and the rate of single black parents is still 3x as much

Yes, there are a litany of issues that need to get better across the entire race. You'll be happy to know that despite media coverage to the contrary, many of them are getting better.
Poverty is down. Education is up. Teen pregnancy is down. Birth rates are down. It all helps, but it is still a work in progress.

The problem I have with your argument is that you are implying that there is some external force that is putting black people in this situation.
I am arguing the opposite. These problems are a result of deeper systemic problems in black culture. They don't value education. They glorify rappers, drug dealers, and athletes. There is no sense of loyalty or responsibility if you impregnate another woman. (All of these are generalizations and not all inclusive)
Why don't we see the same problems in the japenese population. A population that was systemically rounded up and placed in concentration camps on American soil much more recently than any black person was held as a slave in this country.

You're confusing me saying you're better off, on the whole, as a white person with me blaming white people for the problem.
The underlying reasons are irrelevant. The fact is that at birth, black children are more likely to be poor. Not all black people are poor, and not all poor people are black, but on the whole black kids start off more in the hole than their white counterparts.
Only on the OT is that considered a blessing.

The old "the facts don't support my argument and are irrelevant" has happened yet again. So let's just go with what our gut and the media tell us. Same thing happens with global warming, lol

I respect your knowledge on some of these issues, but this might be the most idiotic statement I have ever seen you post. If you have no desire to understand the underlying reason you will never fix the problem. It is literally THE MOST important factor.
You have totally discredited yourself and admitted that you just want to complain about a problem and not have a solution.

Don't you just hate when the facts get in way of your story you are trying to paint, lol
Posted on 7/27/16 at 5:05 pm to slackster
So will you acknowledge that the issues you mentioned are a result of forces within black culture?
Or are you saying that there is some external force out of the control of black people?
Simple question

The overwhelming majority of Asians in the US are first and second generation immigrants. The kind of person who comes to the US in the last 50 years is not exactly a random selection of Asians.

There are many forces at play, but at no point am I trying to suggest white people bear some significant amount of responsibility. I'm not going to explain it away as simply black culture because you and I both know it is much more complicated than that.

You're not understanding the context. In a question on whether it is better to be born black or white, the underlying issues are irrelevant. All that matters is if the problems exist at all. We're not trying to solve black poverty in this context, we just need to know if it exists.
