Everyone seems to expect a 25% or greater tip.

My answer to the question is: "frick you."

Unless you're waiting on me in a sit-down restaurant, refilling my drink and bringing me things like hot bread, you're not getting shite. I'm sick of this entitlement.
So literally, nothing has changed in your habits...WTF are you complaining about?

Some of you folks must have really great lives that you have to go out of your way to find non issues to be outraged about.

This whole tipping thing is a non issue that many, like the screenshot from the OP fabricate an issue out of it.

Tip whatever you want. The amount of people who pretend that baristas and servers are berating them for bad tipping is wild and probably happens about 99.999999% less than implied.

I tip what I tip and have never once had any issues. Granted, I'm a decent tipper. But also, I tip exactly zero more now that the tip line is in your face everywhere than I did 10-15 years when it wasn't. Some of you are so easily moved to tip because it's there and you think the person you may never see again is going to be mad you you if you don't tip enough...you're the exact reason they're doing that.

The only people who support tipping culture are people who earn tips.

That's being an arse. Don't say anything. Just hit "no tip" or "zero", or whatever it is.

Jesus Christ are you so fricking dense that you think I meant I literally say out loud "You can get nothing and like it, or work somewhere else." while hitting the no tip button?

Do you have autism?

The point of a tip is to reward good service. That's the motivation for them to do a good job. When you tip upfront, they don't even have to try.

I agree, but again you don’t have to tip. Or you just keep a few bucks handy and go back and tip after.

The difference is the tip will be included no matter what regardless of service. You still have the option now not to.

Also I think people are thinking of a time long gone. No one likes these services jobs, it’s just the type of work we have for young people. I assure you, most servers don’t give a frick about you unless they are making it a career in fine dining.

But at your rando hole in the wall establishment or some casual chain, they just want cash for weed, booz and diapers.

Well, you've said that you say something to them. You've posted what I quoted, and you've also posted "frick you". So tell us, what do you say? Do you not really say anything, in which case everything that you've posted in this thread is bullshite?

That's exactly what I say to the people expecting a tip in these places. You can get nothing and like it, or work somewhere else.

If this is how you feel then you should tip them for having to deal with you. It is completely an option to not go to these places.

I specifically said in the OP that this was about take-out and drive-thru.

I said I tip when dining in a sit-down restaurant.

So you are telling us that you score very low in reading comprehension?

Are you going to say the same thing at the take out counter at your local chain restaurant?

Because that ain't a subway, and they don't get paid minimum wage.

Why not go to these places? He looked at the menu, saw the price of goods, and decided he was willing to pay.

This is the truth. The OP sounds like an old cheapskate with severe narcissism. He should just order his food and not tip. Because of his narcissism, it's obviously hard for him to believe that it would barely register to the servers who are moving on to the next customer. But he needs to engage in some moral preening in here for some odd reason.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, tipping should be done away with. In Europe what you see on the menu is what you pay, cost tax and tip included. You’re still paying the same price as you would with the tax and tip here, just makes things a hell of a lot easier.

Right. This is a good take here....maybe. The counter would be if the server is going to get paid the exact same no matter what, is there really an incentive to do good work? Pride to do the job well isn't going to do the trick

But it's important to note, this doesn't affect you as the consumer. Like you said, you're still paying the same prices, so I don't see why as a consumer this is something we should be outraged with. We want a change in the system that, as you stated, will have zero effect/change on us as the consumer.

If I were a server, I may be inclined to care, but as a consumer, if it's all going to balance out in the end, then doing it either way is exactly the same for me...so it's nothing for me to concern myself with and certainly no reason for me to be outraged over.

Why? Because I'm reading what you've written? How am I supposed to read your mind? You said that you tell them something. What do you tell them?

I suspect that you don't say anything because you're a pussy. But you feel guilty for not tipping and you feel shame that you couldn't muster the courage to say anything, so you do the next best thing in your mind and come to the OT to bitch about it.
