re: I'm convinced education's steep decline began and continues today for 3 main reasons!

I’m trying to teach 7th graders the same concepts my kids learned in dual enrollment high schoool math classes.
This is because we don’t teach kids math anymore. We teach them how to use a calculator to do the math, so the assumption is you can advance them further and faster with technology.
It is an utterly stupid approach but has been take on by educators, and results in more students simply having no idea what they are doing but being advanced up the chain.
In college, you see this clearly with statistics. These graduate student “learned” stats in undergrad, but have no idea how to actually do them. They no how to find the data analysis tools in the software though, which is what they are taught.
That is the fundamental problem.

4. Department of Education being established under the Carter Administration.

Who's god do you want in the classroom? Any god? I'm sure there are some devout Muslims and Hindu people in America who would agree with you. Or do you just mean the Christian god?

If God was still in the classroom, maybe you would have realized this same exact sentiment has been posted 18 times already in this thread..

No, why would it.
Also not all of those states are liberal.

And I responded with:

And I responded with: Not all of those states are liberal.
Some are, some are conservative and some a relatively even mix.

That's why I said "with few exceptions".
ND, WI, and NE are conservative. The rest all voted for Joe Biden in 2020, Clinton in 2016, etc.
So again - OF THE STATES LISTED (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NE, WI, AND ND) - do you think there is a correlation between the states being liberal and the education ranks provided in the links you posted?

In Louisiana ITEP has exacerbated the problem by affecting the Education budget among others. There was no money to begin with, so all the breaks given to these big companies end up hurting your local schools, fire departments, Police, etc.
Oh and dont forget Landry just removed some of the qualifications to apply for the ITEP program and removed some of the power from the local parishes as well as put them on a time crunch to respond.
The world we live in.

The Amish elementary schools are taught by junior high and high school girls. Their kids perform among the top in the state of PA.

Government at all levels allowing schools to become propaganda machines for a leftist viewpoint.

God has nothing to do with education.
The main issues is teachers are powerless to discipline. Solve this issue and education improves.

Observations from a current teacher who will probably be fleeing for any thing else.
The department of education, the lousy parents, and social media/cell phones.
A. The Department of Education:
We are spending an absorbent amount on education which is why I always laugh when I see people say, "throw more money at it". Here are the issues:
1. most of the money that goes to school districts is being spend on bloated salaries of administrators/central office staff. I teach at a large school in the south, we have 2700 students roughly. We have 8 administrators and 4 assistant superintendents. That is quite a chunk of change being spent on people who are not in the classroom.
2. To receive federal/state funding for your school district, you must meet certain criteria set forth by the DOE.....most of it is useless and expensive so by the time you have already spent the money on meeting the criteria the money that you are getting in return isn't much of a profit to be used for students/etc.
3. The Cult of Standardized Testing...…..absolute waste of money and in no way is educational.
4. The founding of the DOE was for Jimmy Carter to pander to teacher unions (oh and in the south many of the states don't have unions, so STFU is you are talking about teacher unions in the south). Abolish it!
B. Lousy Parents
Your child is an a-hole, you are an a-hole, and you are the problem of why they are assholes. Nuff' said, if I pissed you off, good. Be a better parent.
If you are a good parent, thanks! However, you are outnumbered by the assholes and the absentee parents who have pawned off their child to the state to raise. I have zero interest in raising your child nor should it be my responsibility, I have my own children to raise, all I want to do is teach my class and go home and spend time with my kids.
C. Social Media/Cellphones
Again, be a fricking parent and don't give your child a damn cell phone. If you do give them a cell phone they don't need a smart phone.

Disagree on all 3 points. If God, spanking and old fashioned methods were the key to good education, black kids raised by their religious granny would be top of the class. Not that the things you pointed out aren't important, I just don't think they're the main issues.
Here in lies the problem, why is granny raising the kids and not mom and dad. Doesn't make a difference if Granny and Pops are God fearing people and try to raise the kid/s right, if their mom and dad aren't there it makes no difference.

Teachers no longer teach. They make kids watch videos while the teacher is shopping on Temu.

Maybe mom and dad died. Guess the kids are still fricked if that's the case, right?
What a ridiculous assertion.
