I agree there is a perfect mix. The problem is that no one ever says “Okay that’s enough. We’ve gone far enough.” So trying to be reasonable is useless. The only recourse statists like yourself have left me with is to oppose everything you come up with because you can’t be trusted.
But smoking is gross and trashy anyway. Why do you care!?!!
It’s jyst a couple more bucks a month out of your paycheck every month. Are you really going to miss it?
Do you really NEED a machine gun? I mean what’s the big deal?
We’re just letting women into the military to do administrative jobs. It’s not like they’ll be on the front lines. Calm down!

You mean the property the government allows you to operate as a bar?
Should the government be able to ban you from smoking in your house?

It's not like they are controlling the rights in your home.
Health codes and building codes are some other examples of radical government overreachm

True private property? I don't believe so.
Don't really have a problem with the laws of ticketing parents for smoking in cars with the windows up though (child present). Which is probably more of a personal ideology that doesn't reflect my political leanings.

So you can only implement these policies in a place where property taxes exist?

Yeah, that'll teach em. Issue a fine that won't be paid.

Should we do the same for drinking?
We did something even more radical with drinking, outright banning it in the 20s, it failed spectacularly so we're applying the same lessons for smoking.
And that lesson is keep it legal, appropriately regulated and taxed but make it as hard as possible to continue this self destructive behavior.
And the results speak for themselves after several decades of a public information campaign as smoking is now rightfully seen as trashy, cancerous and ignorant as hell behavior that has no legit purpose whatsoever.
I wish we could take the same approach for the war on drugs as that needs to be treated as a public health issue, not a criminal issue.

While true, not really relevant.
It's relevant in the sense that as long as government holds monetary power over your land, of course they have some say on the happenings of that land.
I hate property taxes but that's reality.

Yes, because that is what I meant.

Removing their kids from them would be better, but I don't want to pay to take care of the little bastards.

So the answer is putting out information so people can make their own choice and not at the end of a gun. Thanks for agreeing.

Ok, so we should ban people from smoking at their house, then.

What kills more people per year, drunk drivers or second hand smoke?
We already tried banning alcohol and it didn't work (See earlier post) so of course, the was subjected to another public information campaign where we make drinking in public spaces as hard as possible to do and now drunk drivers are almost in the same league as child molesters with the lengthy prison sentences to match.

Great side point, both should be illegal for killing innocent people who had no decision to be affected by others killing them with their vices.

Ok, so I guess we'll just submit to whatever the government decides to do to us because of property taxes.

Now you're just adding things onto my posts that I never said.

Theoretically they could, but they will never do that as that would amount to a full blown ban on smoking and the government will never do that as they already tried that with alcohol and it was a disaster.

So, once again, you propose public information campaigns, but really want big brother to tell you what to do by fine or jail.

You don't have to open up a bar. You have the right.

I'm a straight a-hole when it comes to government handouts. Even though I realize I benefit greatly from them. It's very hypocritical and I live with that burden.
