I’m a little concerned about my doggo and his diet. He gained 10 pounds in 3 months.

We have a 2.5 year old Goldendoodle. He hasn’t been getting as much exercise as he used to the past year, but he gets about the same activity he always has. The recent hurricanes caused a lot of disturbances with him the past 10 weeks or so. Back and forth from LC to BR. My buddy was a trooper though and dealt with it. He did try and lick himself a hotspot once but he ended up ok.

So he has always been a weird finicky eater. His craps were never consistent. We finally switched his food to Science Diet Sensitive Stomach at vet recommendation three months ago. Bravo, he eats it and his stools are firm.

We have always fed him at the 50 pound level even though he was a 70 pound dog. His activity is just low because there is no dog park where we live now.

Anyway, over the past three months this dog has gained 10 pounds after being fairly consistent 70 pounds for the past year or so. The vet last week said he was 80.2.

I find it concerning he has gained so much weight in a short period of time (3 months). He is getting fed low rations compared to the bag. I hope it’s not thyroid related but could this be stress related? I’m not sure. He seems fine and healthy.

Get off your arse, take him for a walk, and you'll both lose weight.

Quit slathering peanut butter all over your crotch and maybe the poor thing will lose some weight.

Could be thyroid. Could be different nutritional value of the food change. Your dog could be getting tons of table scraps or treats that you’re unaware of?

Yeah, we’ll walk around the area to view hurricane devastation in Lake Charles. Good idea. Don’t know why I didn’t think of that.

Get him jogging. Great time of year for it and they love it.

Gets no table scraps and no treats. It’s a mystery. I might go get his bloodwork run to check. Our fence is gone and the Sulphur dog park is closed. It’s tough to find him exercise where he can run free. Much less with other dogs. There is no place to walk him around here.

Low activity and stress will do that.

Also, I’d say Science Diet is crap and to switch him but it seems to be working for you.

Question, where did you get your golden doodle from? Just curious.

It’s the only thing we have found that he will eat consistently and keeps his stool together. We got him from Petland outside Saint Louis, MO

Science diet is not crap. Ignore that post.

When you switched foods did you make sure you calculated the calories and didn’t just keep the same amount as before?

If the feeding amount is correct you should have your vet run bloodwork.

That’s a lot should go to get get full work up. I know that can cost a go amount but your dog needs to be checked out. At ,east call dogs vet and ask but they will want to run test.

He has top of the line insurance. I’ll be reimbursed for everything minus the $250 deduct which he has already met this year

Good. Zero reason to not run bloodwork if you have insurance.

You may trust your breeder. But the actual doctors don’t.

Your fence is gone?

That’s it.

He needs off leash time.

Probably go by the vet to be sure BUT for his long-term quality of life—and yours—2 walks per day, at least 30 minutes each. He’ll be a happy, healthy, less anxious pup.
