Check out this thread from a poster who lives in a decent neighborhood in Chicago. Pretty scary stuff.

right now many first ring suburbs are also struggling
Many of them are mirrors of the city neighborhoods they border. Take Dallas County for example.
South Dallas is predominantly Black, so are the bordering suburbs of Duncanville, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, and Lancaster.
West Dallas is predominantly Hispanic, so are the bordering suburbs of Grand Prairie and Irving.
NW Dallas is predominantly Asian, so are the bordering suburbs of Farmers Branch and Carrollton, Coppell is also trending that direction. Richardson is also predominantly Asian and this is now migrating into second-ring suburb Plano.
Pleasant Grove (east Dallas) has been historically mixed Black/Hispanic and now Balch Springs, Garland, and Mesquite are trending that way. But it also has a mix of poor whites who are now migrating to Hutchins, Wilmer, and Seagoville.

Don't celebrate this. They are turning common sense states blue over time. They aren't changing their viewpoint when they move, they are still idiots.

Agee, have lived in the west loop now for the past 20yrs. It was turning over when we first moved here, but taxes are ridiculous.
Moving is in the cards within the next 5yrs.
But I have enjoyed my time, the people, just hate the politics.
You appear to be the type that won't bring Illinois politics with you. Therefore you are APPROVED for relocation to TEXAS.

Particularly if they're retired government workers. Thats the backbone of Illinois budgetary issues.

I bolted Chicago for Charlotte 7 years ago and can’t say I miss it a ton. I do miss the restaurant scene and sure it’d be fun to spend a month there in the summer.
But I don’t miss my $10,000 in property taxes on a condo and double digit sales taxes being nickeled and dimed to death with little fees and taxes hidden everywhere.
Plus no matter how much they raise taxes they don’t get any closer to actually being fiscally solvent because they won’t address the pension issue.
Within a couple years pension spending will be over 50% of the general budget. That’s mind boggling.
How does that happen? Well, my aunt was a librarian at a high school in the Chicago burbs. She retired at 55. If she lives to 85 her pension payout will be just about $3 million over those 30 years. And the amount of that $3 million she paid in? Virtually nothing
