listen to rds, he is a beast

and definitely give us a race report Monday

with a toddler, my running has taken a big hit the last 2 years, so I need to live vicariously through others on these types of things

You'll be fine brother....Once you start down the trail everything else fades away.
Oh, and to mention, this is a beautiful part of the world!

Not sure why you are a money runner but make sure keep a pistol on your ankle and one on your belt. Don't make eye contact.

Take a good pre-game dump. If not, you'll have to piss and shite your pants then run the reminder of the race in said shite/piss pants because, why? That's right, we never quit, that's why.

With the distance between those aid stations, I'd be tempted to carry more than a single hand held bottle. I don't know the terrain, but it's gonna be a while before you hit that first aid station, and a 22 ounce handheld water bottle won't last long if you're drinking as much as you should be in that kind of race.

I despise Camelbaks, because they're a pain in the arse to drink from. I much prefer the double barrel from Orange Mud. Probably too late for you to get something like that, though.

Good luck. One day, I'll get back to longer trail races. Gotta get my motivation back and drop the extra 20 pounds.

I did one in March, on trails in MS.

I live in NOLA, which means all my runs are dead flat. The cumulative effect of even moderate up-and-down slopes really surprised me. Even though I'd done a couple of 60K training run/walks, I was hella sore the next day.

My advice before a first time epic race is to solicit any and all tips a little further in advance.

Probably slightly less. I wonder what their reasoning is for running such a race.

For the sticker, or is it the mind over matter challenge?

That is how I felt until trying out the UD vest. Water bottles up front seemed to make a huge difference and it was actually nice not to have something in my hand for 13 hours! However, I still use handhelds for all my training runs.
