If you want to hear the sounds of a depressed workforce, come listen to Chicago PD scanner

Chicago PD Scanner
It's amazing to hear them interact with each other. The cops fight with each other and dispatch over the radio, while simultaneous sounding retarded as they just hold the air to think up a coherent sentence.
They were just dispatched to a Starbucks for a man refusing to leave the bathroom. I'm sure Shaun King will be all over it.

And likely none of them are making enough $ to live decently in Chicago

I don't know if any of you are familiar with the union structure of firefighters and police these days, especially in large cities - but the vast majority of them make huge money when you look at all the overtime and the retirement.

Yeah but they get to shoot all the dogs they want. You can't put a price on that.

That's a rather racist way of saying black people.

Where have you been?
A white cop can't even pull his gun out of the holster without being labeled racist.

Yea, many of them are buying private jets with that 30k BR police start off with.
30k to deal with one of the highest violent crime rates in the US seems reasonable.

Nah. They do a good enough job killing each other in Chicago. Police don't need to help.

Have you ever listened to the Jackson, MS scanner? Chicago can’t be any worse.

I don’t know about large cities like Chicago but I was a FF in my hometown (population about 100,000) and my starting pay was 26.5k. When I left after 6 years I was making a whopping 34.3k. That’s including me achieving a higher rank. Our Captains start out at 50k. That was only installed recently. My Captain when I left was a 24 year employee and was only making 52k. When the city decided to finally give us a pay raise he was excluded because he was already above the new 50k mark for captains. Overtime was paid as straight time, not time and a half. City matched 1.25% on 401k. Benefits were expensive and weren’t that great.
I’m sure FF’s in the large cities can make good money but I’m willing to bet 90% of the FF’s are having to work two jobs just to make ends meet.

Chicago PD has really gone to hell ever since Carl Winslow retired.

Crappy pay working a dangerous job in a city that cares more about supporting criminals than its police force. It’s not a morale booster.

Officers with Chicaho PD with no rank start at 48,000 and they max out at 99,000 at the 30 year mark.

Starting pay here is around 60k or more, depending on experience.
