I have repositioned my body so that I could (a) draw easier if need be and (b) increase separation distance from my family so they’re not on the line of attack.
This. I know people with a CCL who are much more aggressive and will wait out situations.
I’m still extremely conservative and would much rather leave a situation if possible. I have no desire to ever shot another.

same. If the laws of our country fall, then my perspective would change some.

I did once. Creepy guy was harassing a girl walking home from a bar in New Orleans and chasing her. I intervened and told him to leave her alone. He got aggressive and I pulled my gun and stuck it under his chin told him he had one more chance to walk away. He did.
Girl ended up coming back with me and I got laid. It was a good night

I used to open carry every day for 30 years from the parking lot to the office. Not into the store or something similar. I did it as a deterrent. Hip holster with a .38 automatic.
I used to get a few comments, usually "He got a gun!"
Sometimes "Ever shoot anybody with that thing?" Me: "Not yet."
One a-hole: "What, are you gonna shoot me?" Me: "Do I need to?"
I'm retired now. Not so much need to open carry right now.
I don't get out much.

I open carry and do not have a CCW. I have only had one experience where I actually pulled a gun for protection and did not need to use it.
My house is in the woods at the end of a 2500 foot driveway and there is a locked gate at the highway. One night about midnight, I heard a ruckus outside my house and heard 4 wheelers. I grabbed my AR and stepped out on my porch which is elevated 12 feet off the ground. I saw some men walking around my property and two were on 4 wheelers. I yelled to get their attention to find out who the hell they were and what they were up to. Come to find out, a tree had fell on a fence in a neighboring pasture and these guys were trying to round up some loose cattle. Once they saw me with the rifle, they began to move real carefully and let me know who they were. I ended up helping them find the cows since I eventually recognized one of the baws. I never brandished or pointed the rifle at them but they knew I had it. I just couldn't figure out how they got past my locked gate but apparently they came through the downed fence and entered my property through the woods.
The owner of the cattle now has my cell phone number and knows to call me before he sends his hands over to my place. Since that little incident, they have had to round up cattle a time or two but they always called in advance.
Having the gun in that situation was necessary but I didn't just come out firing, that would be stupid.

Have you placed your hand on your firearm in a visible way to another person? Have you ever drawn your firearm? Have you ever used your firearm? Would you share any of those scenarios if you have? It's something I'm considering, but would like to know more from those who have.
So are you considering killing an unarmed black panhandler as well?

Agreed. If i have an exit route I will always take that. Once I start the draw process I'm pulling the trigger. Self defense is a mindset more than anything..."living on amber" so to speak. Being aware of your surroundings and not having your face stuck in your phone, paying attention to that voice in the back of your head, and preparation.

He is obligated to stick to this mentality Bc it’s how liberals like him are painting the 17 yr old who shot the communists in self defense.

I perfer GEN Mattis' summation of this:

Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet

I get this, but there is also the chance that the act of drawing the gun will stop the threat in which case you can’t shoot

Probably won’t carry too often bc I don’t go to many dangerous and exciting places.
