As someone that has lived in both Bham (Mtn Brook) and Charlotte (Dilworth), I preferred Birmingham.
Very interesting. Thanks for the info.
These are the 2 neighborhoods I have my eye on in those cities.

Charlotte by a large margin for me.
I'm an outdoors guy:
Mountains are close
World-class facilities for paddling, mountainbiking, climbing, hiking.
Several places to go rock crawling in 4x4.
Nantahala Outdoor Center is pretty close.
Asheville is close and supercool.
I'm a car guy...never seen so many hot rods and otherwise cool rides. Lots of car events obviously.
Lots of jobs w fortune 500 companies.
Lots of young people move there.
Helluva lot cleaner place than NOLA, sorry.
Short plane ride from a hub airport to most major cities.
Weather is milder than NOLA.
Got a nice redneck feel that fits me better, good mix of Southerners. And as a Tiger fan you'd stick out in a good way. Lotsa young babes with real southern drawl.
Downside: traffic, so watch where you live.

Now that list I agree with. Just live in SC instead of NC.

Charlotte easily #1
NOLA lags pretty far behind at #2, gets a good bump because most of my family lives there.
Birmingham is on my hope to god I never have to live there list. I live close enough to Alabama as it is... Much rather stay in Chatty or even better move back to the outskirts of Knoxville.

if only three years why not Charlotte? it's a nice place, anywhere but Hellabama

Hard to argue this rational.
