Stuka or an IL-2 (Flying Bathtub) just for novelty's sake.

Walter Cronkite described flying in a glider was like being in the bass drum at a grateful dead concert.....his description of going in during Market Garden

For me, it's always been the P-38. Looks like nothing else, hauls arse, concentrated firepower, no torque effect (engines rotated in opposite directions), and most importantly, the only single-seat U.S, fighter that could lose an engine and still come home.

Can't compete with the beastly roar of a piston engine plane, and aesthetically, the engine pods make it look like something Studebaker would design. Strictly my opinion, of course, and in fact I had the pleasure to meet a 262 pilot when I lived in Long Beach, CA many years ago.

That's because it's a Kelly Johnson work of art.

Most of these are priceless now, but having flown in a P-51 Mustang (twin seat)for the salty price of greasing some hanger doors while installing a camera system back in the 80's with a real live WW2 pilot at the helm was a once and done event.
