Ive been considering buying a few guns since I lost all of mine in a blizzard awhile back, but haven't had the time to make it to the gun shop.

Lost them in a blizzard? What on earth happened?
I lost mine all in a fire and just never bought more.

I lost all of my guns in a freak boating accident but am thinking of buying one soon.

Here is my dilemma as I try to think this through to the end.
If I buy a gun, there is a chance I will use, most likely on a black person trying to break into my home. If I kill said intruder, then the potential retaliation on me could be significant, causing me to have to buy more powerful guns to further defend myself. It seems like the start of a vicious cycle that could be avoided by just having a dog instead to prevent black people from wanting to enter my home.

Like you I unfortunately lost all of my firearms in a freak boating accident. However, the current events have inspired me to consider replacing them at some time in the future.

The great Louisiana blizzard of '59. I was frogging down the bayou and a cold front came through that tickled me to my bones, I was wearing cutoff jeans short pants. The snow became too much and the 4-stroke sputtered with dismay. I kicked it throwing the boat off balance and they fell overboard to an icy grave.

If you don't own a gun now, is the current climate making you consider it?

I live in Mandeville where the crime rate is damn near nonexistent. There's no need for me to own one now and don't plan to own any in the future unless I get into doing some hunting.

At present I only have a Remington 1100 that I inherited from my late grandfather. Use it once a year at a skeet range.
I'm not a gun nut but I'm considering buying now.

Growing up i was never a gun enthusiast. Up until 6 months ago the only guns i owned were 2 shotguns and a 9mm pistol i inherited from my dad when he passed away. I shot the 9mm maybe once over the course of 5 years. I then realized what direction the country seemed to be headed in and have since purchased 2 AR-15's, AR-10, and a .50AE Desert Eagle. I now try to go shoot at least once a week and built one of my AR-15's.

Nope.
I live on the beach. I'm in my office now, but my car door is not locked, nor is my home door.
I support your right to own guns, but I don't need it.

I think that's a bit over zealous if you purchased them specifically due to stuff like this

Orange beach? Trying to get my SO to move to the beach if my job will allow me to transfer

It blows my mind some people actually don't own a gun already, especially in the south.

Don't be afraid to ask someone that you trust and know is knowledgeable about firearms to take you shooting. Start small with a .22lr caliber firearms and work your way up to polymer 9mm's. A .22lr rifle is the best platform for a novice shooter to get into if you zero experience because of the non existent recoil and the ease of use, IMO. Shooting is fun, it does not have to be intimidating. If you do not know anyone that you trust to teach you, seek out a professional. Women can benefit from firearms for protection more than men can because they have less ability to adequately defend themselves. Come over to the OB if you have any questions.

For me it's not this story. It's more that I'm going to eventually be a family man and have a house to protect, and I would like to exercise my 2nd amendment right before it get tightened.
On the fence though, but it's clear this admin and probably the next will do anything to justify 2nd amendment reform (if not legally)
