I Knew a guy who was previously a smoke jumper in Idaho. Once he got married and had kids they moved him to a job where he’d basically kayak through the back country for a few days at a time and drop off wildfire maps to people who lived way the frick out there/off the grid on the river. He’d camp for a few nights on his route.

Buy a little house in AL somewhere in the southern appalachians. You are close to ATL, so cheaper flights anywhere I want. Spend my time hiking and fishing.

I've dropped it all (leaving lines attached and then hooks set and getting reeled in, since we're talking fishing), and honestly I'm damn near executing on your idea (prob GA/WNC mtns, but I love that part of AL too, and you have Huntsville and Rome nearby) for Act III.
