If things are going shite, how do you answer "How are things going/How are you?"

Do you just assume no one cares, lie and say "I'm good"? Do you actually say "Not great"?
My problem is I've always had a borderline Asperger-ian aversion to bullshite. I cant help but be honest and it almost physically hurts to blow smoke.
I usually just say "oh, you know..."
But I've noticed that if i ever say "I've been better" people get all fricking weird. Almost offended. Don't ask that question then. I have never used "how are you?" as a greeting. Its awkward, no one cares, and requires way too much effort on the part of the other person. Go with "hey" and lets both move on with our lives.
Anybody else with me or is it just me and Larry David?

I'm just being nice, I don't really want to know how you're doing with a 5 minute response on how you're actually doing.

Then why in the frick are you choosing the ONE GREETING that out right says that you do?
Just "for the love of God" say hey.
And i would never talk for 5 minutes to somebody. I just might grunt out something other than "im good".

"Doing good" is the answer when things are ok. "Making it" is the answer I give when everything is going to crap.

I usually say "I'm good" not only because I don't wanna talk, I don't wanna hear you talk either about opening up since I did

not bad. My version of "oh you know"

"Fine. How are you?". Nobody wants to hear about my fricking problems.

"I don't answer them. They are able to tell by the type of car I drive, clothes I wear, etc. that I'm a millionaire and of course I'm doing well."

I think the whole point of my post is that I would rather you not even greet me at all....

I wouldnt even tell someone my life story if they asked me "whats wrong". might say "Got some shite"

And i would never tell them. So can we quit asking stupid questions when "hey" is perfectly acceptable.

"Same old". Unless it's my BFF, nobody wants a real answer.

If i get hit with "how are you today?"
I just respond with "frick you." It's full proof. Try it out.

Always give ambiguous answers that could go either way in a positive tone:
Unbelievable
Same old same old
They're going
You know how it is

Unless it's a family member or close friend, 99.9% of the time the person asking you how you're doing does not care so there's really no point in saying anything other than good or fine.

Always say "good"......I never tell anyone my private biz

I think the main thing is, for me at least, it actually sucks to say "im good" when youre not. Like it reminds you that things are going so bad you gotta lie.
Its that whole thing that makes the question, IMO, inconsiderate.

I am great at "blowing smoke". It's an art.
People don't really care about your problems especially if they really don't know you that well. It's just a gesture to say "hi, how are you?" and the basic response should always be something like "doing well, thanks. And yourself?", but when you get better at bullshitting, you have to play to your crowd. You don't always say "doing well".. You don't want to come off as someone tightly winded so you say "going good.. going good".. My default way of asking is "what's happenin" that's when I don't think about it, but to answer your question, you just got to keep it simple.
