Again I'm far from any sort of expert, but I think the belief (as in those who believe in the rapture) is that even after the "rapture" it will be possible to be saved from damnation. But only if one does not accept the mark of the beast.

I think it goes like this.

Rapture: Children and true Christians are called up to heaven.

Post Rapture: Rise of the Beast and start of 7 year tribulation. Most will accept the mark of the beast and thus be eternally damned along with the beast. Other will reject the Beast or possibly be able to hide from the Beast. As long as these people accept Christ, they can be saved. However their salvation will only be in the afterlife and they will still have to live out the horrors of the Beast and the tribulation until they die.

As least I think that's how it's supposed to work according to believers in the rapture.

You should pray you're right. Because if you're wrong and it does happen, the last place you'd want to be is left behind down here.

Do I need to start praying that the aliens from Independence Day never come? Or that Randall Flagg never returns to wage the battle of evil vs. good? Because quite frankly, Stephen King is a much better fiction writer than Jerry B. Jenkins or Tim LaHaye.

Is Xenu coming back? Do you pray to L. Ron Hubbard to deliver you from Xenu?

Lahaye is a bestselling fiction writer, nothing more, and I find it sad that so many dark, twisted people seem to believe they're part of the elect, waiting for the moment when they're snapped away from all those suckers left down below.

Well think about it. If the rapture happened today that would confirm that the bible is true. This being the case, that means it would also be true that whomever takes the mark of the beast is damned to eternity

Yeah, pretty much this. Then as a knowing believer, you know your best bet is death because without the mark, the living conditions will really suck..... But you can't kill yourself because that defeats the purpose and you'd go to hell anyway. It's just gonna suck until you are eventually raped, beaten and tortured by heathens, and ultimately murdered as you go out testifying that you're a believer.

If the rapture happened and people disappeared could you be sure of where they went?

What if the bible had it backwards?

I don't think I'd be taking any mark of the beast though. Just sounds like a bad idea

frick no.

If you don't submit to the Mark, you've still got some kind of a chance at redemption.

I just like to fit in. If the mark is what's in style, so be it. One day it's cargo shorts and boat shoes, next day it's the mark of the beast.

what is a "rapture"?

A misinterpretation from revelation scripture that evangelicals believe in
You fail to explain how it's a misinterpretation. You believing it's absurd says nothing about interpretation. I agree it's absurd, but I still believe it will happen.

As far as the "mark", everyone needs to understand that accepting the "mark" guarantees that person an eternal spot in hell. No one will be "forced" to accept it, but there will be consequences for not accepting it.

If 1 Thessalonians is the basis of the "rapture" and as per your OP it does happen, it will start with God himself descending from heaven with a shout and angels blowing trumpets

Don't you think that it's kind of weird that this central part of the doomsday mythos gets thrown in the middle of a sermon about virtue and sexual chastity? But it somehow gets left out of Revelation, the main book that believers recognize as the blueprint for Armageddon? It just seems like a convoluted way to warn people about the end of days, no?

Why would it happen?

Also I can't imagine how not taking the mark would somehow be worse than eternity in hell.

That said I also don't understand why in this war between good and evil the Devil takes all the evil doers and punishes them for God. It doesn't make much sense, wouldn't Lucifer want to help the people who worship him, and the ones God rejects?

Beyond me.

Actually it dates back further than that, but not by much.

You could lead the resistance and fight back against those that are marked. I mean you'll definitely lose but maybe you can go out in a blaze of glory since death would be better than living anyway.
Or would it be bad to kill those who are marked?
