If I fart on a train, and it accelerates....?

I've always been bothered by this scenario. If the train is stopped at a station, and I fart. When the train begins to accelerate, will my fart travel to the back of the train? Likewise, if I fart with the train in motion and it comes to a stop, will it travel to the front of the train? I've always been curious of how gases behave in windless environments in motion.

We haven't had one of these in a while. Can you also ask if a plane will take off on a treadmill and if a bird flying in a plane will get smashed into the back of the plane while you're at it?

It would diffuse away into the bulk air of the car and would exist essentially everywhere, but at a concentration to low for your nose to detect.

The questions comes after a letting out a lot of farts on RTD trains. What happens to the air molecules as the train starts going. Normal physics would have physical objects rolling backwards, but does the air hold itself in place?

Haven't sat in a physics class since 11th grade, but I would assume that the normal force created by the enclosure on the air in the car creates the same or similar inertia as it does someone standing in the car.

Think of it as how gravity affects air. . Accelerating is basically adding a horizontal gravity. So the lighter air would move toward the front and the heavier air would move to the back.
If you ate something heavy, your fart goes back. If you ate a salad and farted it would be moved forward.

So essentially, my fart does travel one way or another when the train starts accelerating. So the best time to fart to spread the love is when we are approaching/departing from a station.

Methane is heavier than air so the fart meandered towards the back, slowly.
