When's the last time you've watched a girls fastpitch softball game?
I see many corner infielder wear masks and there's a good chance that they will be required to wear a mask in the near future. I had several, especially in the last 10 years, corner infielders wear a mask on my high school teams. My corners play in front of the base and are moving forward on the pitch, especially when we know the batter is bunting or slapping. Some of the slappers are so good now that they generate as much power moving forward as they do staying set (power slappers).

Everyone in the infield has to.

At a high school/collegiate level, they play the same distance from the plate as my son did when he was 7. So line drives get on you quick.
But it's a definitely a cool thing to wear right now. I get your 3rd basemen, or pitcher wearing it. But was at a park for my son's game and this ~12 y/o softball team literally had every player wearing them. If you are in left field and you feel the need to protect your face, you should find a different sport, because you obviously can't catch a ball.

Frankly, most of the women softball players probably really are men anyway.

Why do some baseball players wear ankle, shin, hand/wrist, elbow, and face guards to bat?
Or those stupid oven mits while on the bases?
It takes them two minutes to disrobe and glove up after reaching base.

My niece pitched softball in high school , line drive right to her forehead , knocked her unconscious, had to be bought to the hospital. She was fine afterwards except it took about a month for the imprint of the ball to leave her forehead.

My daughter is a current high school softball player. So in the last calendar year I've watched probably 100+ games between her high school games and travel games. High school varsity players don't wear masks unless they are pitchers. I don't know what else to tell you.
ETA - maybe I should say very few. Like 1 in 50.
