Besides retrofitting terminals, could we board and deplane from the front and back at the same time?
Should work for reserved seats - might cause chaos on Southwest flights...

Airlines used to do this. Problem is when they started charging for checking a bag people all want to get on first to make sure they get an overhead spot. No one wants to check a bag for $25
People in the back of the plane are those without status. People with status believe they should get overhead space.
Solution is you "rent" an overhead space for the flight then no one else can take it. Measure the bag and that's the space you get. That's a crapton of work though
Yep that's the problem with boarding the back first. You know half those folks are gonna throw their carry-on in the first overhead space available then go back to their seat.
If airlines removed the checked bag fee 75% of the delays in boarding would be removed. You can gate check for free, I'm convinced the only reason they charge for bags is to reduce the amount of folks they need loading bags on the plane. The revenue has to be pretty insignificant since almost no one checks a bag these days.

If you check a bag for any trip a week or less I know you aren't a seasoned traveler and are a chump
Or I hate having to deal with dragging a bag through an airport when changing planes in addition to keeping up with child. I'd rather pay the $25 and not have the headache.

I would support allowing people who volunteer to do so a chance to board through the back door of a plane and use stairs
Burbank, CA board and deplane from the front and the back.

Can we also ban folks from bringing a backpack the size of a laundry basket along with a order of panera bread, 64 ounce bottle of water and some oatmeal for an Atlanta to Orlando flight.
You will make it one hour without your lunch, without your laptop, without your ipad, without your anything.....just get on the plane, sit down and then get up when you get to your destination. You dont even need a goddamn neck pillow.

airlines try to do that, that's what the boarding group number on your ticket is for, but with the me first/rules are for everyone else society we have, that isn't a very effective approach, airlines are always looking at how to improve things, it's the passengers that don't seem to want to cooperate
I'd be fine with it if they prohibited those in the cheap seats from carrying on. You don't want your loyal elite status customers having to check bags.

Board from the back. It would be much faster and efficient.
I think the op meant that the boarding would begin with the passengers in the back first, but would still board from the normal door in the front.

I find it incredible that no one has figured out a better way to disembark from a plane? I guess all our money is being spent building scooter companies

I just hate having to wait for old and fat people to get up and get off the plane. Also hate when I'm in a window seat and the aisle seat dude doesn't want to get up and get of the plane once we start deplaning

But there is a special place in hell for those that stand in the aisle w their junk in my face as soon as the plane gets to the jetway
