Hope you’re right. But My point is, you gotta have a competent police force and a victim that matters, and a killer who isn’t too messy. Killing crack whores doesn’t get people reved up like killing students in a college town. And this shite was pretty sensational. A strangled street Walker will be dismissed as a pimp/prostitute crime at first and probably won’t garner DNA investigations.

This guy’s background in criminology and his research on the feelings of those who commit crimes make me just think he wanted to see what it felt like to kill.

Seems like the perfect cover for a serial killer: "I was searching that stuff for research for school."

Well no and it shouldn’t. People that put themselves at risk are culpable in their own deaths so society doesn’t treat them equally

The “less dead” have been targets of serial killers since Jack the Ripper, because of this.

This must’ve been a close link, because it took investigators months to research and narrow down GSK.

It could be close, but it could also be the only reasonable possibility. If the rest of his family is still on the east coast, and he’s a student 10 minutes away from where this took place, I feel like that would narrow down the possibilities pretty quickly.

The GSK could have been any of the older members of that family, so it probably took a little more to work through.

DNA extraction has gotten so good that they can get a profile from "touch DNA"

Couple that with nearly every house in America having outside cameras, doorbell cameras, dash cams, traffic cameras, etc and we are just short of violent crimes being a thing of the past.

At the very least, it'll be hard to ever have 2 or 3 serial killers operating at once as Baton Rouge 20-something years ago.

You're very optimistic on this.

Most criminals in general think they won't get caught or they really don't care if they do.

The fact that the crime may get solved quicker and easier is of little consequence to the dead victim but could prevent the next victim from being killed.

Has there been anything, even speculation, as to a motive?

How was she connected to the victims?

It just seems like an awfully violent crime to be something completely random.

Won’t stop the killing. Might lower the numbers of victims. Whores, druggies, runaways, aren’t going to garner as Much attention as multiple coeds. Killers will Switch victims.

Nothing will ever completely stop the killing. But genetic genealogy could put a dent into the number of serial killers, and their body count. It may become common for it to be used as quickly as possible for all unsolved crimes where DNA is available (even when the victims are on the fringes of society). That could limit the total number of victims per serial killer as much as possible. Eventually, the more cunning serial killers will adapt their behavior to evade detection (to some degree, they already have begun). Fortunately, most criminals are not that cunning or disciplined.

That is outside of gang killings in shitholes like NOLA, Chicago, etc

Honestly gov should subsidize some free test distribution in high crime areas

Ted Bundy, Dennis Rader, Ed Kemper, and many others all committed seemingly random very violent murders.

Some speculated he was rejected by one or
Both girls. I think he was just a psycho and fixated on these girls randomly.

Kohberger was also a Ph.D. student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, which is a short drive across the state line from the University of Idaho.

Damn he took his degree pretty seriously.

I always joke that girls/women who major in psychology in college are doing so to try to figure out what’s wrong with them

Maybe this was the same for this dude.
