Rumor on Twitter is that this guy has a small child

Wonder how they got his DNA? Did they get everyone in the area with white Elantra's to submit a sample?
If there was even a slight struggle before he was able to kill all of them, it would be likely his dna would be under at least one of the victims fingernails

Wow. That audio lends credence to the theory posited earlier in this thread that he did this just to see if he could get away with it.

The host of this YouTube channel is currently live replaying this audio on a loop while advising he turned the caller in to the authorities and it was the man arrested today. The original broadcast is still extant.

Right, but I mean how did they have a sample of his DNA to match it to the DNA found at the crime scene?
Edit. I didn't consider that the article means they matched his DNA after arrest

It really isn't that hard to see how the cops caught him. The cops have way more information than what the public has. They said the crime scene was messy so you'd have to assume the killers DNA would be left behind. Then the white elantra thing came out. Cops pull up all the white elentras in a tri state to start. Create a hierarchy of the owners. Move everyone 60 and older to the back. Everyone owned a female to the back. Narrow down the 20-45 male owners. Cross reference their names with anyone that follows any of the 4 students on social media. This guy fits the bill. Check to see if his DNA was at the scene and it was.

They followed for 4 days. All he has to do is goto a fast food restaurant and throw a way his straw and boom they got his dna... At least that's how they got a guy in Iowa on a 40 year old murder cold case.

Makes sense

How would they have his DNA on record previous the arrest? Only two ways, if he was previously arrested and gave a sample, a family member had given a sample (and they were able to closely match), or he gave his DNA to one of those ancestry websites and they got that.
Otherwise they would need enough to get a warrant to get his DNA.

Yup. They can do that as well, true.
Garbage put on the curb is in the public and can be searched. They got a guy from a 50 year old serial killer spree in California from a coffee cup (after a grandchild had done a ancestry thing and it pinged)

Could have gone to his house in Washington and got it out of a garbage can. Maybe the cops were allowed in his office at Washington State. Cops followed him for four days in PA and took anything this guy threw away.

Why do you assume this?
We don’t know what evidence they have.

Yeah. I believe it was GSK they recently got by getting a coffee cup out of his trash.

Beyond what has been discussed here, ie trash that someone throws away, they can't just go up to him and shove a cotton swab in his mouth and then run it.
But yeah, they can get it through trash and stuff like that

Glad they caught this guy. Now, hopefully we can get a break in the Allie Rice case.

Saw a case where they were trying to investigate a homicide cop for an actual homicide. So they had to gather evidence under the radar since the suspect knew the methods very well and would probably hold up well in the interrogation booth. The investigators followed them around quietly and eventually the suspect left a cup unattended at a restaurant or bar somewhere and the investigators got it that way.
No idea how they got it in this case, it it’s kind of crazy how easy it is to get without even having to enter the suspects home or vehicle.
Fascinating stuff.

Or, since he's apparently a criminal justice PhD candidate, he gave a sample willingly for some classroom assignment.
