It seems plausible that the killer thought of the downstairs area was a basement and not worth checking, and not worth cornering himself should the upstairs tenants wake up and come down to check.

It seems also likely that the killer had a perch somewhere to the rear to case the house around 1:45 when the 4 came home and could see they had forgotten to lock the sliding door back.

Just saying.

Laci Peterson's family didn't go to bat for that killer. Some of his family may have believed he was innocent. But his mistress didn't and neither did his own sister who actually wrote a book - "Blood Brother: 33 Reasons My Brother Scott Peterson Is Guilty"

Kaylee had a dog she shared with her ex bf. Whether it was there or not I haven't heard.

That was supposedly another reason for attempted contacts with ex that night.

I haven’t read anything official on dog being found at house. Some seem to have taken a comment from Kaylee’s sister as meaning she let dog out after getting home while others say sister was saying dog elsewhere and was reason for phone calls and texts after getting home - getting dog situation straight with ex over the phone.

Which is why I'm going with serial killer. I don't think this guy knew his victims.

Just some of my thoughts.

The local police were in over their heads from the beginning on this investigation. They wasted valuable DAYS creating their own narrative. 1. A person committing a crime of passion does not walk through a house killing four people. 2. This had to be a very bloody crimes scene and the killer had to be covered in blood and as such would have left a long trail on his exit. If there was not snow tracks then there should have been bloody leaves showing there path. 3. If the killer did not leave the weapon at the scene then they most likely did not dump it somewhere nearby. They still have it. 4. They did however likely clean the knife and themselves somewhat. What did they use to clean the knife and themselves? Did they use a bathroom or the kitchen sink? 5. This was not likely a quick timeline. The person had to be in the house at least 30 minutes and that alone says they were likely calm and methodical. They took the time to lock at least one of the bedrooms when they left it. Methodical.

Why that house? There is some likely connection. Its an odd layout and it was likely dark in the house. It would seem they had some knowledge of where the bedrooms were enough to not be loud searching around in the dark. Any maintenance work lately?

There is not much talk about the boyfriend/girlfriend couple as far as when they arrived home or their phone usage timelines. My suspicion would be they were killed first before the others arrived back home and the killer was in their room when the others came home.

This unfortunately is not a one and done killer. Most likely is related to the skinned dog and they now escalated quickly to a thrill killer. If its a student, someone likely knows them and their recent infatuation with a knife.

Why don't you let the police do their jobs. I think they know more about solving crime than a wanna be Columbo on the internet.

I’m wondering about recent deliveries. Amazon gives you the option of describing where to leave a package…such as at the back patio door (and perhaps get a chance to check to see if it’s ever locked); and unlike a maintenance person, a delivery person would never be inside the house and never get a good look downstairs. Where the maintenance person servicing the utilities room on the first floor should be aware of the roommates on the first floor.

The coroner (who might be wrong) seemed to indicate that all 4 had died in the 3-4 window. We know that the girls upstairs were calling the ex-bf at 2:52. So it would seem the murders were all done at the same time in a tight 1 hour window when all of them were home.

Oh, relax. You act like this thread should be a cold recitation of news coverage.

Edit: For what it’s worth, people in this thread have been relatively well-behaved with exploration of possible theories involving the possible suspects but no one convicting them in the court of public opinion.

You would hope but there are plenty of examples of PDs being woefully deficient w/basic investigative techniques.

Yep. A delivery person would be a great thing take a look into. This story reads like a murder mystery fiction book. I'm ready for the chapter. Identify somebody! If they truly have no leads than that town must be scared shitless right now.

I put that local police at about the same reliability as Uvalde PD. They never expected to ever have to deal with such a crime.

I’ll add it might not necessarily be a parcel package. Could be food or grocery deliveries.

In any case, yeah, if the patio door has been the typical delivery location, it explains familiarity with the sliding door but not necessarily with the house’s layout.

At this point I just can't see how it was anyone closely related to them. If there is a ton of evidence like they are saying surely there would be enough to at least make an arrest if they knew who to look at.

Even if they hadn't processed it all you would think there would be something that they had found that tied them to who they would have initially looked at ...i.e. roommates, BFs, close friends, etc.

Got to either be a random or just acquaintance I would think at this point.

Someon may have thought it was just the girls, but that house was selected.

I think the dead guy was responsible and and offed himself. It has to be. (I'm probably wrong, but that's my conclusion.). This was a messy scene. No one cleaned up and just left that place. We'd have a suspicious vehicle description by now.
