Hey FLBoo, check in and let everyone know you are safe. Still have power here, but expecting the next 5 hours to ramp up.

Crazy that this thing is moving at only 10mph and predicted to go even slower.

Eye diameter of #Ian about 35 miles across, a larger hurricane after Tue night eyewall replacement cycle. Entire extent of hurricane force wind field of Charley 2004 would fit inside Ian’s eye. This will produce a much wider swath of damaging wind, storm surge, flooding rains.

Just woke up and this thing hasn't intensified overnight. Guess shear is helping now. Hope it stays that way!

Yes, I stayed up for this pass. At least I'm on mountain time, so it's not quite as ridiculous.

Last advisory was 953 mb. Readings suggest 942-940 (waiting for a dropsonde to confirm exactly). Enough there to support a max of 120 and it was the NW side.

In other words, looks like some strengthening has taken place since our last plane.

NE Quad pass incoming. Then I get some sleep.

141 kt flight level. That's 145 mph surface doing a 10% correction. The surface readings don't support that. The NHC is going to up this to a 4 on the advisory I'm almost certain. 130-135, I'd go 130 personally. Pressure 943 mb.

VDM did note the eyewall is open to the SE. That's going to limit any strengthening from here.

Cat 4 officially.

And don't thank me. I needed to know how much the dry air was potentially affecting Ian, to the point of sleep deprivation. It's neither healthy or altruistic.

NHC goes 140 mph. That's going to get some folks attention.

Alright. Sleep time.

Lol that's what I get for opening my stupid mouth and saying it hasn't intensified. Still hoping for a bit of weakening before landfall.

Punta Gorda check-in...
Light, steady rain with bursts and small wind gusts every once in a while.
Thought it would be more violent by now but Ian is apparently holding it's cards pretty close.
We're buttoned-up and ready.
Will check back in when things pickup.

Thanks.
We're more inland so I'm not worried about surge as much as I'm worried about wind.
