It blows my mind that Pineville has 5 exits off the Pineville expressway and Lafayette only has 4 off of I-10. Even Shreveport has an impressive interstate design compared to most of south Louisiana.
Lafayette...the next 4 exits...a city of its size should have more.

Odd place to locate a bridge. Curious if there was originally a railroad right of way underneath there also.

I mean, I-10 really just skirts the north side of Lafayette. The issue is that the I-49 project feels like a pipe dream at this point.

I still don't know why they chose to spend money here -- it'll just bottleneck at the Basin Bridge and imho more chances for more accidents. Whatever.

and they would save the Evangeline TW for last. That middle lane would test a trophy truck.

Shreveport has two loops. Just sayin.

Correct. It is not really used to get from one place in the city to another. It is also not really used to get workers from neighboring towns into the city.

I am just curious as to how and why Pineville got an expressway?

That section of Interstate needed to be completely rebuilt. Since it was going to be rebuilt, they decided to add the third lane at the same time rather than just add a lane later.I
Actually thinking about the future.

The exit from 49 almost immediately becomes a bridge over the Red, there’s a bunch of main roads like 107, 28 and 165 that all intersect or break off so i guess its a good way to keep the traffic flowing especially for the people who work in ellick

What is funny is that the Pineville Expressway predated I-49 in Ellick. Construction started in the 1960’s according to Wikipedia.
So which politico had the pull to get that started.

quote:Answering my own question (I know, loser move): yep, Missouri Pacific RR predated I-10. Found this on a 1970 USGS Arnaudville topo map. Pull the area up on Google satellite view and you can still see the line of the old tracks.

I 10 runs at north edge of Lafayette..the entire city is south of I10.
Lake Charles is the same way, but they built a loop.
I live in Lafayette, but it's just retarded they havent been able to get I49/90 to be an interstate going south.
Idiots run governments locally, then they leave and new idiots come in

Actually 3/4 of a loop.
It only goes on the north side and then only a quarter to 49.
If you think about it. Lake Chuck is only half too. Loop theoretically go in a circle not just a bypass.
