throwing them is not the reason for killing them.
it's just something to do with the carcasses after the killing happens.
they're every bit as responsible for wetland loss in south Louisiana as anything else out there (oilfield canals, global warming, space invaders, etc.)
when I was a teen, you could kill them pretty much year round.
bring their tails to designated locations and get like $5 per tail.
no questions asked, not paperwork, no license, nothing.
they didn't even care if it had tire marks on it (obvious roadkill vs trapping/shooting it).
now, you have to have a license, there's "seasons", and I think you even have to trap them.
