Seriously. I think we take our k to 12 educators for granted. It's a job that I certainly would not want,
but I know how necessary it is. I think the main reason it gets a bad rap is due to discipline problems with kids and the overall laziness/ incompetence of some faculty.
In truth, all jobs have bad workers and other difficulties.
I was recruited to be a teacher because I could engage students with ease and made class interesting even on the most boring subject. However I did found a better calling, working with taxes :D Less stress.

And they should not have to go through this... This shite starts at home. Parents don't give a frick about their kids when it comes to school. So the kids won't either.... If I were a teacher there would be some serious parent meetings with me if their kid gets out of hand.... Even with an all perfect group its still a hard job........

quote:No, education is more of a general studies degree but you have to take a test in the field you want to teach. So if I want to teach history in the middle/high school level I have to get certified to teach history but I do not need my bachelors degree in history
hey don't already make them have a degree in what they teach? Georgia won't let you teach it unless you do. Now, you can have a degree in history but teach math if you are already certified in history but can pass the math GACE.

As soon as they got rid of capital punishment and made the transition from the authority having the power to the kids having the power, it ruined the whole system. These kids fear nothing, because they know no one can touch them or do anything to them. Suspending a kid from school does nothing to change their behavior -- heck, they WANT to be at home. And most parents have the whole "You betta not lay a hand on my chile" attitude. Until we go back to harsher punishments, nothing is going to change.

It does not. But I just wanted to bring this point up because I have think that just because you do not want a certain job, it does not mean that it does not have any value

That's jacked up. Georgia requires a social studies degree with an education add on.

I agree, in some extreme cases, but corporal punishment would do for most.

I'm actually thinking about teaching when I retire. This breaks down ethe requirements to teach in LA.
This is the basic requirements:
Candidates must provide the following documentation:
Verification of bachelor's degree.
Verification of completed Louisiana teacher preparation program, including certification recommendation from the program's designated official.
Verification of passing scores on the required Praxis exams.

We have the TAPP and/or MAT program for people switching careers. Might be something to look into and see if La offers the same.

I teach history. It's a great job. It's also pretty fun. I just spent 3 hours on a Sunday making a PowerPoint, but that one is now made for next year
Edit: I make my students aware of all economic and political theories, but I certainly don't push a liberal agenda

Louisiana has the MAT for people switching, basically earning a masters in elementary/middle/high school education....

You forgot one...
You lose tenure if you suck at teaching

Agreed. Sometimes takes an act of Congress to get rid of the garbage ones. I'm a coach, so there's really no such thing as tenure for most of us anyway. If they want you gone, they just reassign you to some elementary job babysitting little grab-assers all day - and then you choose to leave on your own rather than taking that position.
Posted on 3/13/16 at 4:45 pm to lsusteve1
a lot of places have gotten rid of tenure, I know they do not have it in the parish I teach. you must have an effective rating at the end of the year and over 3 years you must average effective

We're all moderate to conservative, and pushing the agenda that you spoke of would be deplorable to any of us.
I'm glad to hear that.
Can you tell me then where all the focus on racism comes from?
