The city of Baton Rouge has lost population since 2000 (approximately 103 people). It isn't growing despite claims by the establishment and millions of dollars spent to improve Downtown and Mid City, etc.

I still think the better path forward is to continue to improve downtown/mid-city/Nicholson (connecting downtown with mid-city and downtown with LSU).

I diagnose the problem differently: Since most of Baton Rouge is built like a suburb, why not just move out into the suburbs? You get the same types of neighborhoods that exist within BR, but better school districts. You just have to sacrifice as slightly longer drive to work.

I think the correction then is still to urbanize (modernize) the core of the city and make the livable parts of the city feel LESS like a suburb. Since people are waiting longer to get married and have kids, you now have an entire generation of people in their 20's and early 30's who have disposable income, aren't hurt by bad schools, and would prefer an urban setting.

Throw in some divorcees, and that's sufficient to have out of an 850,000 Metro area:

50,000 pure urban residents (Current population downtown: 2000, population mid-city South of Florida - unknown).

200,000 in the ghettos/bad neighborhoods (slight improvement over today's 25% poverty rate)

600,000 - remainder of Baton Rouge and in the suburbs.

It’s why the SJW that scream “slavery” are fricking the wrong chicken. Slavery isn’t the reason for the widespread economic divide, Jim Crow is why 53% of black college students are first generation college students.

That plan isn't working. People are leaving the city despite the improvements which have been numerous.

A lot more data is needed to make that determination (and no, I don't support EBR paying some firm $300,000 to get it).

For instance: If 2 people move into downtown, but 3 people move from Sherwood Forest to Denham Springs, is the plan not working ... or is the plan the only thing preventing a complete collapse?

It's really helping the crowd, at the expense of the rest of the city and the rest of the parish.

People in Sherwood Forest live in the city too. They would ask what's in it for us?

So it didn't make it on the first page, but ascension and Livingston achieved something like a 30% growth in the couple of years after Katrina.

You've disregarded this entirely.

So post Katrina folks flocked to Livingston and Ascension, but not BR?

Now why would they do that?
Why would they not move to BR?
Why would more not move into EBR Parish?

I remember when our leaders were telling us that thousands were moving here. More help from the Feds was needed. BR would boom.

But the stats do not lie. That didn't happen.

That’s why we’re moving. Just sold house in garden district and looking out of state. Thinking Cary NC right outside Raleigh. Anyone lived in that area? How is it?

You know only the School Board can affect radical change, and no one person can. The Supt. can not. You know our school board isn't going to do much to rock the boat. That's why I prefaced my comments by saying if I were the school dictator and then listed some ideas.

BTW, are you voting to renew all these school taxes?

Neighborhood schools. Neighborhood schools. Neighborhood schools. And with that St. George will go away too. Everyone should be in favor of this.

In what way does EBR not have this already? I've looked at the school districts in my area, which is within the proposed St. George limits, and they are about as "neighborhood" as it gets.

If you were named EBR School Superintendent tomorrow, what would you do to change the school system?

The greatest superintendent in the world would fail without the buy in of the parents and community leaders and as long folks have a stronger sense of entitlement rather than bearing some responsibility for their off spring - it ain't happening.

But to answer your original question, parental accountability would be the first thing I would institute.

City of SG is not the same as a SG ISD.

They are different things.

SGeans want an ISD so they can control school policy and improve the schools. Neighborhood schools are part of that equation.

The metropolitan area population has grown a decent bit. BR is closing in on 1 million (around 830,000 currently). Schools only help so much. I believe population growth is strongly correlated with sufficient infrastructure improvements. Better roads and highways attracts businesses, promotes economic growth, and ultimately promotes population growth. People want to live in nice areas these days. Improvements in schools will come with all that.

What about the Green Light Plan? It did a lot to fix a number of the transportation issues. The metro area will always remain high and grow due to capitol city government offices, Chemical plants, the port and LSU. The city of BR will continue to decrease due to crime and poor schools, which feed each other.

What a blowhard troll you are.

Are you bad at reading comprehension, Russian? Did you forget the topic at hand? This thread is about how the decline St George was trying to stifle has only continued.
Your cronies in the school system have only continued to underperform and drive out more families.

You are the one with no solutions, my friend.
You would rather keep the status quo and keep trolling the folks willing to make a difference for the better. You didn't have valid solutions for the problem last time, and you don't now.
