Insurance is the biggest scam in the world. It is in case some shite happens. If nothing ever happens you never get your money back.

I'm thinking travel to Thailand and go to the hospital there. It's like Cedars Sinai level classy, no one waits longer than ten minutes and you can get multiple tests including MRIs, XRays and a pill colonostapy for $1500.

It's going to continue being like this until we stop listening to scare tactics every time someone tries to fix it. Look at the reality of Obamacare vs. the reaction.
For the vast majority of people, their insurance stayed the same or got better. But half the country will blame it for the very problems that have been going on for decades (i.e. the kind you're dealing with now).
Most people don't understand the economics of healthcare - and that's not a dig at them.

You know other places can run these test and procedures on you, right? You can also ask for the price up front. This is assuming you don't live in a swamp and only have a community hospital. And $100/week for family coverage is not bad. Now you see why your dad was always pissed off. You cost him more money than he wanted to spend.

On the downside, you come back with one fewer kidney.

I thought my $150 a month premium and $400 yearly deductible was bad with $25 doctor visits

this is what everyone says until they have a claim. Then they actually read the policy and find out what it says. People who think insurance is a scam are the people who are too lazy to read what they are buying.
Yup Healthcare and Property are the two big ones where no one reads their policy

I have heard South Korea is the place for plastic surgery. It is cheap, and females start getting shite done early. Top facilities too.

Are those higher prices the bullshite amounts your provider would bill your insurance, or are they what you would pay out of pocket toward your deductible after your insurance knocks the bullshite amounts down to their negotiated rates, some or all of which they may pay, leaving you to pick up the difference?
CT Scan was quoted over 3K, I would be responsible for 2K. I went to another place and told them I had no insurance and they said in and out cash payment $400.00. Done Deal
The only office I asked if I could be a cash patient was for the Colonoscopy. Her response was it was against the law to run it as cash if she had my insurance on file. Then she said I would be required to pay 975 instead of the 550.

Good points.
And I will go further to saying hardly anyone here even understands what a risk pool even consists of. Sure, every pool has those who pay in and never realize the benefit in terms of seeing a provider. . They're fortunate. The other side is 90% of all HC costs come from the highest 10% of a pool's HC spend.
Why? Here's a to-do. Look at your company's internal benefits site. Does it offer proactive health screenings and/or wellness and maintenance incentives? There is a reason. This country is unhealthy as shite as a course. We have little stake in the overall cost benefit of insurance as a pool which has taken us over the cliff.
Live healthy as a whole and HC costs plummet.

cash patience
That's something most don't have. Takes lots of practice and patients.

That's very messed up. How did you find out how much you would be responsible for? Did you have to contact the provider to find out what they bill insurance, and then contact insurance to find out what they allow? Doesn't the provider have an agreement with the insurer to accept pre-negotiated rates?

Not true. If that were the case the program would be popular. All the hate comes from the fact that a very large portion of the population is paying more for less coverage.

Sounds like you need to get a better job. Most OT engineers here get full family care.

Well, since Obamacare still has it's biggest hit being implemented next year, you can hang on there a bit before you figure out what it's impact is?
And, to date, the reality is it's made massive changes, the likes of which are only now being implemented and it's turning into shite.
<---- uses lots of healthcare. Knows first hand how quality of care is changing.

Ha sure, whatever helps you sleep at night. As always, this doesn't really effect the rich and puts a huge strain on the middle class.
For what it's worth, my insurance is not as good as it used to be, costs more, and my eye insurance was completely dropped.
