Mine's 19 months and sounds like she's already a better driver than yours.

But thanks for the reasonable discussion
Yea, throwing "most" and "99.9%" really shows how reasonable you are.

Dude just shut the frick up. You don't like my comment and not willing to discuss. Fine.
I'm not gonna talk about your kid so don't be an internet badass and talk about mine.

Who said anything about a $50K vehicle? I said that I was thinking about just getting him a new truck because most used trucks with low mileage will cost me $15-$18K and I can get him a new Chevy Colorado for less than $25K.
I do agree with some about the crew cab being a bad idea because he will then have the ability to haul 5 people around. This would be the same if I was buying him a Toyota Camry. I may consider a regular cab or extended cab truck because of this.
For those saying that I will spoil him well I raised my oldest son the same way and at 24 years old he is graduated from college with a good job and bought his own house with no help from me. Also, as with my oldest son, he will work to kick in some money on his insurance and be responsible for his own fuel purchases.

I bought my nephew a few years ago a nice used 4x4 Nissan Frontier 4- door from Enterprise Car Rental Sales group. The truck was a year or two old with less than 30,000 Miles. It was clean, in good shape, and took less of a hit paying his insurance.
It has been probably around 5 to 6 years and he is still driving that truck.

I am willing to discuss. You're not willing to hear anything that goes against you.

Get him a POS until he graduates.

You never even discussed. You came in pretty hot right off the bat. You could have said man that's not true, I know several kids that are all good drivers etc.

How so? Me saying 99.9% included your 19 month old child. Hyperbole my friend.

Aww, all we need is Displaced and we can get all the people that are obsessed with me in one place.

Sounds like you've sold yourself on buying new despite the OT's overwhelming advice...that's fine.
But try this. If he's going to be kicking in for insurance let him decide. Tell him he can have this 2012 truck and it'll only cost HIM(say) $200 a month for ins or I will get you a new truck and its going to cost HIM (say) $350 a month. Then let him decide what he wants to pay. Just a thought. And don't give in, make him pay it all each a every month. shite, the way things are now-a-days all he has to do is mow about 7 yards in a month and there is the $350. That something easily done and wouldn't get in the way of school.

I'm sure this made more sense in your head. Maybe you're thinking of Pecker or GreatLakesTiger.
LCA: What you and Mingo have made happen here is an actual derailment btw.

You shut your mouth when you're talking to me.
You and I agree on some things and we disagree on some things that you are wrong about. I don't think that qualifies as an obsession.

can get him a new Chevy Colorado for less than $25K.
Go look at your son's room and you will determine if he will trash a new truck or not. Does he take care of his stuff or not. His truck will be an extension of how he treats his things.
If it's a pain getting him to clean his room, then that new truck will be trashed also.
Since your mentioning a Colorado, what's wrong with an older Chevy Colorado in the 2005 and up range.(you can get a crew cab one for 5,000)
It is significantly cheaper and has modern safety features. They are very dependable trucks.
Heck I still have a beater 2002 Chevy S10 in my driveway with 160,000 miles and no major repairs. It was my son's first truck and never let him down. I kept it when he moved on. With a little bit of maintenance by a decent mechanic Chevy S10's or Colorados regularly make it to 250,000 or 300,000 miles.
I say buy him a dependable beater, invest the money you saved, and give him the money when he graduates college.

This might only be a guy thing
My wife keeps our house spotless, but her car looks like a bomb went off. I have no idea how she handles driving it.

I've already told my boy who turns 14 in December that we are going to get him only what he feels like he can contribute. That is, for every dollar he earns to put toward a car/truck I'll chip in $2. We can afford to buy him something brand new but this is our way of making him take some ownership and responsibility from initiation. I have no doubt he'll have about 2-3K saved up over the next 2.5 years which means he'll get a 6-9K vehicle to dent up a few times.

Don't buy a 15 year old a new vehicle. Why even get him a license at 15? Guess I'm old fashioned but my parents didn't allow me to drive until I was 17.
That being said, find someone with an auction license to buy you a used vehicle.
Second recommendation is to talk to Tommy at Elite Imports in BR. Don't think he does trucks but he can probably point you in the right direction.
