Here's a great drill for short putts, but it's time-consuming:
Get five balls, five tees and a tape measure. Starting at 2 feet from the hole place a tee in the ground every foot till you get to 6 feet.
Begin putting from 2 feet. Make all 5 then move to 3 feet. Move all the way to 6 feet, then work your way back to the hole.
The caveat is if you miss, start over. If you make all 5 at each spot going out and coming back, you will have made 45 straight putts from inside of six feet.
This exercise forces you to develop a repeatable stroke under pressure and confidence out the wazoo.
If you really want to challenge yourself, do the drill all around the hole. Make 45, then move 90 degrees around the hole. If you get all the way around, then that's 180 straight short putts in a row.
Like I said, it's time-consuming, but it works.
Good luck.

Old golf joke, but I started to practice off the green even more when I heard it. I definitely chip better than I put, but of course I'm still trying to hit the green on approach every time.
I do still chip closer to (but off) the green than most people would unless it's within 10-15 feet of the cup.
My putting comes and goes seemingly every round. One thing that will always be a hole killer for me is sand. frick the beach.

What drills can I do to help this? Is investing in a new putter a choice, cause I am lost on what I'd buy that would be any better. Any recommendations?
A few years ago I was struggling with the putter, I felt like I read putts well but just couldn't make them. I missed damn near every putt by an inch outside the hole low or high and it drove me nuts. i was on a mission to improve. here is what I did and I am actually serious.
1. putting doctor.net Glen Coombe has a $50 package that I bought and it comes with his training aide which is a very simple 2"x3" mirror and about a 12 page pamphlet. The pamphlet is full of a few thought processes and drills to practice with. The aide is the big thing here because you lay it on the floor and put the putter behind it on the back edge and slide up to the ball until you see your eye in the mirror. That means your eyes are finally above the ball, it amazed me how much I had to slide up. Vast improvement.
2. I got the Ping app and little clip that holds your phone to the putter. Sounds dumb but it is very good to help with a nice tempo and will even tell you what type of stroke you have and what type of putter would be best for you. I recommend this one big time.
3. I went as comfortable in every aspect as I possible could feel. I went back to my very first putting stance that I used as a kid. Feet close together, open stance, traditional grip and I went to the super stroker grip. Super comfortable means I am more comfortable. I roll the ball very purely now so I no longer question if I miss a putt due to pushing or pulling the ball, it is simply me making a read and hitting the putt. I make a lot of putts now.

Ever try putting left hand low?

Try a center shaft putter. That's what I use. They aren't as common anymore but I prefer addressing a putt directly over the ball.
However, it doesn't matter what putter your using if you can't read breaks and control your power.

Start working out heavily and practice hitting longer drives. When the putts you're missing are for birdies and eagles, rather than pars, you'll be back in the 70s before you know it. Fastest way to shave shots off your game

What type of odyssey putter are you hitting. Is it heavy? I prefer a blade putter with a standard grip. I am not on the oversize superstroke grip bandwagon. I might use a 3.0 superstroke but it is all about feel for me.

Not that my way is the only way to fix your problem, but no one has posted it, so I'll add my 2 cents.
Are you taking gimme putts inside the leather? If so, stop.
I used to take gimme putts all the time, but my putting quickly fell to shambles. Making yourself make short putts really helps your confidence and overall putting stroke. Your first couple rounds putting everything out will be a disaster, but you'll survive and be better for it.

Update:
I got out to the range this morning dwtermined to solve this problem. Did the 3/6/9 drill with both putters and came away confident with the blade over the mallet. It's what I felt I knew but really hadn't taken the time to prove.
I started hitting 2 balls from 3/6/9/12 and counting strokes to hole each ball. After a few rounds of 12 strokes I decided to try looking at the hole instead of the ball.
Holy shite.
I immediately started holing putts. The putts from the 6' range started going in same frequency as typical from 3'. The main difference is my misses started ending up all within grip distance regardless of putt length. I didn't have the random end up 6' short or long on a miss hit. Even when backing up to around 15' I still would hole a putt every 2-3 shots.
It's still very awkward to do this, so I've still got some practice to get used to it. But I can't recall doing anything that has had a more immediate and noticible change in my game in 20 years of playing. Thanks for the suggestion Random.
