I have seen one use for a wifi enabled appliance.
A guy at Home Depot told us about a couple that bought a wifi enabled stove for the husband's parents.
His parents were elderly and had a bad habit of forgetting to turn off the stove. He bought the stove and put the app on his phone. That way he could remotely monitor the stove for their safety.

Samsung set with all the bells and whistles. The washer lasted 3-4 years then crapped out. Repairman said it would be cheaper to replace than repair.
Similar situation for us had fancy Samsung front load set with pedestals paid over $3k for the pair and they lasted under 5 years. Replaced with a speed Queen set and haven’t looked back. Sure it can’t fit as much per load but the clothes is coming out cleaner and they just keep on trucking. We are a family of 5 and wash at least ten loads a week. Wish I had the room for two sets

Bought this SQ last week and expected delivery today or tomorrow. It's replacing a less than 2 year old Maytag base model that is garbage. It's doesn't agitate enough to even spread the soap around the basin if you use pods. It's ruined 3 shirts and a pair of pants due to the pod melting and just sitting in the same spot causing a stain.

A normal generic washing machine is way better than any of those “smart” washers

We love ours. No direct drive, has an agitator.. old school dial and basic settings
This all day long. And when these do have issue, they are very simple and cheap to do minor repairs on to extend the lives even longer.

There's an episode of "The League: where Ruxin is bitching about his phone dropping calls and he says "The only app I want for my phone is PHONE". I feel the same about appliances. The only function I want from a washer machine is to clean clothes reliably and well. Same sentiment for my fridge, etc.

The best technology a washing machine could have is to be able to transfer clothes once done washing over to the dryer and start the dryer. Can't tell you how many times I'm busy and leaves the clothes in the washer for a day before switching to the dryer.
I couldn't care less about AI or voice assist, get my clothes in the dryer.

I knew we had begun to jump the shark when I noticed my toothbrush has Bluetooth.

Yeah, they tried that. An all-in-one unit that washes and drys clothes. The problem is it does neither that well. I have heard the smaller capacity ones are somewhat better, but I will never know.

When we replaced our washing machine earlier this year we purposefully went with the one that had the least electronic bells and whistles.
I do this for all major purchases. Including vehicles. It’s getting increasingly hard NOT to get gear with a bunch of eCrap, though.

Same situation except Samsung washer lasted much longer for us.
