Sounds like a not-so-clever marketing ploy concocted 2,000 years ago.

Malachi 3:10

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.

I have had everything I've ever given returned to me a hundredfold.... A thousandfold. This is truth.

Fwiw this is the only thing God asks you to test him on.

And nevermind that your offering goes toward covering up homosexual child sex abuse.

Just keep dipping your finger in that holy water and hitting your knees.

Is homosexual child abuse worse than heterosexual child abuse?

Common misconception: tithing is for the church

It's actually for the individual. It's returning what is Gods. Just wanted to clarify and stuff.

I like what you are saying... but if I go give 10 percent of my income directly to the poor, and show up for Church with just enough money to help them fund the utilities... is the church ok with that? Something tells me no.

Ehhhh you should probably just give it straight to the pastor so he can have a divine conference with the Lord so that together they can determine where these funds would be best applied

After seeing pics of Dino's house, I would have thought people would stop giving money...they are funding such waste and extravagance...sickening.

I think that technically would be skirting the intention of God. We are to bring 10% to our church. If you are so inclined to add to the 10% with an offering, I don't think it matters much whether it goes to the church or not.

Me personally, I bring the 10% to the church (not healing place fwiw) and I give direct to the needy.

I'm not loaded down with money, but I have been so blessed these last few years.

Money can NOT buy happiness, and I'm truly happy.

10% of what? There are multiple types of tithes in the Hebrew Bible. If we're going to use the O.T. Model of tithing, then let's use all of it. Yet, we pick and choose what to apply.

What's the New Testament say about giving 10%? Nothing. It says give from the heart...not really specifying monies.

ETA: I agree with your overall point and intention.

I don't mean to be all confrontational, but that's simply not true. The pharasees tried to trick Jesus by asking whether they should be paying taxes or tithes. Jesus asked them who's face was on the money.

Give to Caesar (the gubment) what is ceasars, give to God what is his.

Basically means tithe your pre-tax figures IMO.

Someone mentioned Our Saviors in Laf. and they now have a branch in Opelousas. I've got some family members that live in that area and they're drinking the juice. It is incredible how quickly a "church" can grow and its pastor cash in. I met him once (wanted to vomit) and just can't believe that people buy into this! The dude was driving a black jag while majority of the followers (they hve O Town bumper stickers) are driving beaters but continue to hand over their money. Blows my mind

Vengeance is for the Lord, my friend. Multiple references to "false prophets" and "leaders of the flock" being held to the highest standard of all.

This new pastor very may well be a nice guy and a sincere pastor...BUT...anyone attending these churches to take a serious look into the church leadership structure and how the finances are used. There usually are essentially Pastors (Rizzo) that "OWN" the church in this non-denominational churches that have sprung mostly from Assembly of God/Word of Faith roots. This is afar away from a biblical church model as you can find.

I disagree. that is not the point of what JEsus told them. he was basically saying that you have an obligation as a citizen to pay whatever the government says you owe as per the law...you also as a believer have a obligation to render to God what is his. This is not some formula for pre-tax tithing.

Tithing was something essentially constructed during the early days of the old testament and involved giving the first fruits of your flock or your crops and donating it for use in the temple or for sacrifices. Jesus does not mention giving tithes in the new testament, but I believe he raises the bar, not lowers it by talking about giving generously to all in need, loving your enemies, the story of the poor widow who gave all she had, and how difficult it is for those who love money to enter the kingdom.
