I hope they aren’t planning on keeping the new Nicholson exit off the bridge the way it is

It is a disaster especially if the light only lets 5 cars go at a time.

I googled “ dotd, Baton Rouge, Nicholson”, here’s what I got.
Looks like the improvements are slated to start today. Details in wafb article.

I don't really understand why they moved it to Oklahoma Street.

Seems like if they wanted the exit to connect to river road, they could have just extended Terrace to River Road for much less.

It would be fine coming off the bridge if idiots would stop trying to bust a illegal U turn or stop traffic to cut through that parking lot to turn left.

It’s an unbelievable joke how terrible the infrastructure is on LA1 for that industrial corridor

It is a permanent & should help with not backing the bridge up right there.

It would be nice if drivers learned what a yield is tho.

They made it worse...from your link:

quote:

That could soon change. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) said starting Monday, February 19th, you won’t be able to turn right on Terrace Avenue from the exit anymore. That road will become a dead end. You’ll have to drive up one block to Oklahoma Street.

quote:

“When you’re getting off the interstate, and you’re merging with Highland, it gives you a lot more room to navigate. So, you’re not going to have to make that hard right to Terrace,” said Communications Director for DOTD Rodney Mallett.

Mallett explained that this road construction project will open more avenues to help you get to where you’re going.

“Oklahoma shoots all the way through to River Road. So, you have better access to Nicholson, River Road which gives you better access to the Water Institute, to LSU and even to downtown,” Mallett explained.

Almost everyone exiting is trying to get to Nicholson, not Highland. All they did was bottleneck it with a light at Oklahoma without the old yield lane at Terrace.

Why not leave both open instead of deadening Terrace?

How about they just destroy all the shitty neighborhoods down there, and just rebuild an entire new stretch of lanes, exits, highways, and on ramps.

The more cars that exit Nicholson as soon as they cross the bridge, the better.

Who the hell is taking a hard right onto Terrace from the exit anyway? Even before they blocked it off for construction?

If you're going Nicholson, use the merge off the interstate onto Terrace. If you're going Highland....you're not turning on Terrace.

I think it’s pretty obvious that by extending the exit to Oklahoma St, it allows for more cars to exit right there and not back up the bridge.

This is an improvement, imo.

I take that exit every single work day and that is not what is causing backups. Sure, every once in a while it would be backed up on the ramp but that was the exception. The bridge is backed up because of going down to one lane and everyone knows it. For them to act like this is going to help congestion on the interstate is such a joke.

The majority of people exiting there. That's how you get to Nicholson.

It wasn't working this morning. Traffic was backing up to the bridge because the new light at Nicholson only allowed maybe 5 cars to go per cycle. Without a merge lane to North Nicholson, the light backs the whole thing up now.

I'm not saying it's causing the bridge to back up...yet.

We all know what that problem is. I'm saying this is going to make it worse. Nicholson exit lane used to flow decently until this new design.

Now you have an added light to Nicholson that completely stops the flow off the bridge.

That is not how you get to Nicholson. He said taking a hard right on Terrace. There is a hard right on Terrace at the light on Highland.

The way any sane person would get to Nicholson is by taking the merge/yield onto Terrace. It is not a "hard right". It is a merge.

They literally just extended the exit a block down, it’s the exact same thing as before except the exit now has the capacity to hold more vehicles coming off the bridge.

The light is brand new, im sure it’ll take them a few tries to get the synchronization right.
