Damn that graph represents the amount of stupid people in Louisiana. I scored in the 85th percentile on my ACT with similar public education. Also because Louisiana citizens reject every tax measure to increase teacher pay, this state doesn't even compete for the best and brightest.

Where do teachers have off?
I dropped my kids at school this morning

All north shore schools are closed today.

You think teachers caused devastating flooding? You think teachers made the call to cancel school? You mad because teachers chose a profession that comes with a lot of days off? You ever think the time off might be a perk/draw to the teaching profession?

Well to play devils advocate here, the ACT is not a exact measurement of intelligence or a determining factor of how one will perform in college. I know a guy that scored a 22 on the ACT after taking it 3 times. Now he is working on his doctorate in physics.

Yes, you can be highly intelligent and score poorly on a standardized test. You cannot, however, be a total fricking idiot and perform well on them.

I'll post this in here since the other teacher bashing OT thread got deleted.
Jesus. 2 threads on the OT this morning teacher bashing.
My old lady teaches inner city Houston. And the stories I hear on a daily basis makes me wonder how she gets up every morning and goes to work.
90% of the kids today don't give a flying frick about school, their education, or their future. The parents don't either, it's free day care. And they won't even bother to answer their work or home phones when the teacher's try reaching out to the parents for help or to let them know of a problem their child is having. Every year that goes by, the teachers are taught / instructed to inflict less punishment and less severe consequences for misbehavior and poor work. Yet, are being held to ridiculous standards of testing and grading scales. Then when there is a problem child. I'm talking someone who has no interest in being there and only disrupts the classroom. The teacher is handcuffed to dealing with it, because most of the administrators have 0 backbone to standing up to the parents or the child themselves. Did I happen to mention that the placement of children with mental disabilities or handicaps is a sad joke?
It's a beyond fricked situation that is only deteriorating year by year in today's society.
I don't even had to mention how underpaid teachers are in my post to describe my support and sympathy for the patient, determined, hard-working individuals that chose teaching as a career. Yes, there are a lot of lame ducks in the teaching profession, no one will deny that. They are only there because they got a shitty degree and can't find anything better. But there are also a lot of teachers out there with real degrees, that could have other successful careers, but are there because they really really care and go home every night nearly in tears they are so beaten down.
So yeah, I'm happy for my old lady, that she has today off and a Spring Break. Because by Friday of every week she's to the point of having a fricking breakdown due to dealing with awful kids, shitty parents, and lame-duck administration. Did I mention she's also up for Teacher of the Year in HISD? Best believe I'll have my nicest suit on supporting her at that ceremony.
Not even half of us posting on the OT right now would have the balls or the nerve to put up with what most teacher face today. Get fricked gumbo

I up voted even though it was too long to read. Being a teacher in BR would flat out suck. Teaching horrible BR kids all day for 45k a year
how miserable would that be? I can't think of much worse jobs, seriously.

Haha, I understand.
Believe me, every day I come home, I get a 45 minute session of her venting about the kids or school drama. It's a bit much at times, but I'm super proud of her.
The biggest problems I have at work is mofo's scheduling meetings during my lunch or past 4PM. Meanwhile she's got kids throwing temper tantrums, cursing her out, and then getting the same thing from their parents who should've been spaded/neutered themselves. I have no idea how they do it, but I for one respect the hell out of them for it

The state of LA deserves the blame for that chart with its shitty funding over the years

I just wonder why they do it. I would never get into such a profession. My mom teaches at a public high school in BR and she is miserable. the parents have to be the worst part.

Teachers put up with shite im sure because parents today aren't very good at raising kids in general. But when you get 16-18 weeks off per year it's hard for me to feel sorry for you. I deal with bullshite everyday at work year round. Every job has shite to deal with. I don't get to take a day off and just show a video because I don't feel good or drank too much the night before. I don't get to call in sick and have a substitute take over my work for the day. I have friend that quit their job to become teachers because they were tired of working so much and they needed a break. That says everything you need to know. Respect they deserve but sympathy I can't give.

I hate that the other thread got deleted. I got called out by several posters for being a teacher, yet being on TD. When I explained that I'm off today because of the flooding and asked if they were off, too, since they were posting, I got a lot of crickets.

Im sure teachers are busier than others. The ones I knew got jobs teaching art, PE, and elementary school. No teaching degree. Just a certification required.
Posted on 3/14/16 at 12:10 pm to Clark W Griswold
If you're a whiner, you'll whine about any job. Women dominate the teaching profession, especially elementary. Women whine more than men. Logically, you can then call teachers whiners and get away with it.
Why would anyone want to do it, if it's so bad? I can only speak for myself, but after I decided that law wasn't for me, I finished my history degree, then got Alt. Cert. because I wanted to coach.
