It's nice to have down time. Plus on the worst day, the stress isn't shite compared to being on the contractor's end. I'm also making much better money than any engineer my age and many older, even within the company, without a degree. But, I have 30 years left and have pretty much hit my ceiling. And closeout on infrastructure projects sucks.
I really shouldn't bitch. But 4 months on nights, 6 days a week, is starting to kick my arse. Though it's worse for the state guys, working way more hours, feeling with tedious paperwork, and getting paid half my rate.
But if you have an engineering degree or the have right certs, you can get in on it. Most states are trying to use consultants instead of hiring their own inspectors. So I shouldn't have trouble finding a job until hover cars arrive.

Yeah my grandma had some character too.
She had this wooden duck in her front yard whose arms would swing when the wind would blow. Well i shot one of the wings off with my new pellet gun. Boy was she mad. She was grunting up a storm. It's hard not to laugh. Getting "yelled" at by a deaf person is quite the experience.
She died last year. I think she was 95. She was as tough as a cheap steak.
